Get there early, if you've been asked to appear on a live TV news show or even one that's taped, but taped to the set time, or a talk radio show news program, show up five minutes early. If you are a book or producing, you're kind of running around, you're trying to schedule guests, maybe four guests in the next 15 minutes. Anything that doesn't go right according to plan is annoying. It's more stress in your life. So if someone shows up 10 minutes late, it's going to make you nervous about booking that person the next time because live TV is live. If you're not there, you're not there.
It's not a matter of just rescheduling it to the next segment, because the next segment may be about a hurricane in another part of the world. So you've got to really be there. Not just on time. I like to get there five minutes, sometimes 10 minutes early. Now you don't want to show up too early. Because then it's like oh, why is this person here and we Supposed to entertain them, the green room is full.
Don't get there too early. If you do, just wait outside in the lobby, but 510 minutes early, makes the producer relax, makes them think you're easy to deal with. And it increases the odds. They're going to want to call you again and book you again and again and again. And that's the real name of the game.
