While we're in the planning stages, I want you to find out and really figure out and think about your role models. What talk shows, do you actually enjoy? You look at almost any successful talk show host, and they can point to someone who was an inspiration to them. Jimmy Fallon's who grew up watching Johnny Carson, and Jay Leno. Oprah Winfrey did watch phil donahue and enjoyed his show. Now each one made it their own, a little bit different.
Charlie Rose worked for many years for Bill Moyers. And a lot of his show is similar to what Bill Moyers shows used to be like, Who is it you admire? Who is it here? It could be Jerry Springer. I'm not passing judgment. But I want to know who is it you admire?
And have you watched them lately as you're planning your own show? My advice, learn from your role models and these days, they're all on YouTube. You can go back and watch every kind of of the Cavett Show interviewing William F. Buckley from 1971, if you want, but what sort of show Do you want to have? What hosts do you admire? I would urge you to go back and watch those hosts on YouTube. And really try to study what they're doing.
Know how long their questions are. Note how they decide when to sit back and let the guests really talk. When do they interject and really dominate. Some host ask lengthy questions. Charlie Rose last lengthy questions on his shows. Other hosts often asked very brief questions, and they want their guests to bring out as much as possible.
So, study Barbara Walters, study the old rush limbaugh show if you want to remember he's not only a radio host, he had a television show in the early 1990s. So figure out who your role models are not that you're going to copy them. But I do want you to have a sense of styles. You're familiar with role models you have influences. Every every great artist, every great singer. Every great athlete has influences people they watched and admired and respected, who inspired them to do what it is they do.
So I would like to know, who are your talk show hosts role models, think about it, write their names down, and watch at least three or four videos of them on YouTube now
