Another Blender I made, what to wear, I was wearing a suit and tie for all of my early courses. Now there's some irony here because people actually pay me a lot of money to tell them what to wear when they go on TV and they're making videos and giving speeches. But it turned out I made a misjudgment. I wear a suit and tie because most the time if I'm training, bankers, government officials, UN officials, they're wearing suits and ties. But when people are studying online, quite often they're at home, they're in casual clothes or went off in their younger students, then my main corporate clients, and I think they were frankly put off by the formal stiff suit and tie. So I do think in an online environment, it does pay to be a little more casual.
Now some people go too far. I do see a lot of Udemy instructors, where they get very distracting clothes. But that can be okay as long as it's your personality and it fits who you are and doesn't distract from your message. If you are doing a video on image consulting and you have something that looks really ugly, well, that could hurt you. But if you are giving people advice on some aspect of computer programming and you don't have a flattering shirt that you're giving great information, no one's gonna care what you're wearing. The main thing is, think about it.
Think about what you're wearing, is it going to distract? Is it going to compliment your message because you want people to focus on what you're saying? When the cameras on you and you're not just using graphic or PowerPoint. You don't want to distract
