What's the difference between people who are good at media interviews versus people who are great? It's not what you think it's not one person has better humor or better hair better looking. The real difference in my experience, people who are great at being in the media really love it. They enjoy it. When you see them on TV, when you see them on a talk show, or being grilled by a political reporter, or business reporter doesn't matter the niche. They just exude the sense that they're having the time in their life.
This is one of the few things in life we're simply acting like you're having fun acting like you're good. Helps. Think about it. Most things in life are not like that. I'm not a golfer, but if you and I go out on the golf course, and I say wow, I'm gonna be great today. I'm gonna have the best day ever.
I'll be better than Tiger Woods. I could have the best attitude in the world. Not gonna help me on the golf course. I'm still going to be horrible. I'm going to shoot 180. And that's cheating.
So, so many things in life are like that I can say I'm great. I'm gonna design the best bridge. I'm so smart. I can try to design a bridge, but I have no engineering skills, no math skills. So that bridge is going to collapse. If I design it, my attitude isn't going to help.
But speaking to the media is different. Just acting like you're having fun. I don't think you want to be talking to that reporter creates a positive crowd psychology, and it really works to your benefit. So let's try to work on that because frankly, there's no reason why you can't be great. Not just competent, not just good, but great with a media every time you speak, whether it's to reporters, host anchors, or on your own format on YouTube or Facebook.
