Do you suffer from public speaking anxiety? If you do, relax, you're not alone. In fact, it's an extraordinarily rare human being who doesn't feel some anxiety, or anxiousness when getting up to give a speech. Now, for some people, it's standing up in front of two people that makes them nervous. Some people are comfortable in front of 100 500. But 2000 can make them nervous.
So there's different thresholds for different people. But basically, everybody has some level of anxiety, even if it's not a bunch of flopsweat knees knocking together. Here's the thing, it's very easy to get over this. If you do just one thing that I asked you to do now, you're not gonna want to do this. But it doesn't require pain. It doesn't require physical exertion.
It's very simple. You need to practice your speech, your presentation, your talk, whatever you want to call it, and you got to capture it on video these days. You can just talk right into your cell phone. And then you've got to watch it. diagnose it, gentlemen, I hate looking at myself, tough. You gotta look at yourself in the mirror before you get up and go to the office in the morning or go to school, right?
Exact same thing with your own presentation, you have to look at a memo or a term paper, or a business email that you send to somebody before you send it out. Right? You've got to look at it, you've got to analyze it to figure out what works and what doesn't work. It's exactly the same thing with your speech, your presentation. So if you are throwing stuff out there and you haven't looked at it, of course, you have anxiety, you don't know what you're putting out there. It might be awful, it might be really boring.
It's very easy to find out, record yourself and watch it. Now here's the thing. The first time you look at it, you're not gonna like it. Maybe because it's really boring. Or maybe Just because you're not used to hearing your own voice or seeing your face, you've got to do it a whole bunch of times. And here's the real key.
You've got to keep doing it until you can look at a video of yourself and say, Ah, that guy that woman's pretty interesting. If I can be half as good as he is, or she is, it's going to be a great presentation. I can't tell you if that's going to take, you know, one take and 10 seconds or if it takes you 40 takes and two days. All I can tell you is if you follow that one tip, your anxiety over speaking will completely melt away, you will no longer have public speaking anxiety.
