We live in a video age unfortunately, video, the cost of video has dropped so low that even if you're a one person shop working from home, you can create tons of great video now I don't mean flashy special effects video that's gonna win Movie Awards. I do mean simple talking head video that can generate tons and tons of publicity for you help you get on national TV, local TV, radio, interview requests from print media, and online media. You can do this, and I'm going to show you exactly how to do that in this course on how I've done it for my own business. Through the use of internet video, I've gotten myself on everything from CBS morning show The Daily Show on Comedy Central in the New York Times, again and again and again, I've been able to get placement, through doing PR for myself through the use of video and specifically YouTube videos.
Although once you have digital video, you can post it anywhere and everywhere. It doesn't have to be limited to YouTube. A couple of big overriding concepts I want you to get though before we really dive in. When you're trying to get interviewed by the media, whether you consider that the traditional media or if it's just a website that captures video, what they're looking for is someone they can actually talk to. And that's why seeing you on video is so important. If it's just a text, a blog account, you may have great ideas, but like the old New Yorker, cartoons cartoon said, and the internet nobody knows you're a dog.
Editors, writers, reporters, journalists, Booker's talk show hosts, looking to interview people don't know if you're a dog if all they can read is your book, your blog content, your column your postings on Twitter, but when they can see you on video when they can See you talk, when they can see that you're articulate, that you can frame a message, that you can communicate something and it doesn't take you five hours or even five minutes, but that you can sum up a point. Speaking sound bites, has something interesting to say. You're going to whet their appetites, to want to talk to you to want to interview you to feature you, on their live talk shows on their edited programs in their news stories. So all media have relative importance. Having a best selling book is a great thing. Having a blog with text that has millions of people coming every month.
That's a great thing. But everything has its strengths and weaknesses. The strength of video is that reporters can actually see you talk and they can see it's you. It's not a team of editors behind you. It's not ghost writers, is you and that's why I believe video is the most valuable tool and the most underused tool for generating public relations because most of the PR establishment, the big agencies, or the small agencies, they're still about type type type type type, right press releases, right strategy memos, right press advisories. And yet you've got to do some of that.
But I'm assuming that you're on a budget and you want to do this yourself. So I want to use your time for maximum impact. And in the time it takes to write and rewrite, and edit and refine a 750 word blog post, read by maybe 10 people, you can produce one or two videos, send that out to reporters, editors, others in the media and perhaps generate 1000 views and more important, a handful of media requests so that you can be interviewed and seen by 10s hundreds of thousands, possibly Millions. So that's what we're going to cover here. And I'm going to help you go through it step by step. Now, the bad news is you're gonna have to get over any fear or version you have of showing your face on camera.
This can't be one of these things where you're just showing a computer screen, you're talking or it's all PowerPoint that's slow, it's cumbersome, and you're not really proving to TV votes, that you can be on camera and not scare their audience away. Now, you don't have to be good looking. You don't have to have Hollywood looks. My goodness, my hair's falling out of getting a double chin. You don't have to be perfect. But you do have to show the TV producers, video producers, radio producers, that you're comfortable speaking and that you can come across in a professional, articulate manner.
That's the beauty of YouTube videos. I'm going to show you exactly how to do it.
