See how a moment ago I just hopped right into the messaging. Don't do that. That's what everyone's tendency is. But if you're preparing someone for a TV interview, anything where there's a video camera involved, you don't even have the luxury of helping them worry about their message. Because unless this person is a real season Pro, and they've done thousands of interviews, most people even good looking attractive, successful. Senior Executive CEOs are still nervous about how they're going to look on camera.
So my recommendation is if you have limited time, just say hey, let's start by making sure you're completely comfortable with how you're coming across, pull out your cell phone. If you've got a little more time or it's a structured media training, then use a camcorder you don't have to have an expensive camera, but a camera that hooks up to a TV ideally if you have more than a half an hour, but you If not use an iPad, use a cell phone. Just ask them a few questions, get them comfortable with this whole process of practicing with you and rehearsing with you. As opposed to talking about the interview, which is easy and comfortable for people, but as I mentioned is a complete waste of time. So my recommendation is record them on video. Get them used to doing that, and you need to get used to doing that.
And some of you might not be that familiar with the where the video record function is on your cell phone, your smartphone, figure it out before you go into the room. If you bought a new camcorder, make sure you know how to use it. If you're using an iPad, figure out what app you're going to use. But that is really where you should start because if you can show someone instantly how to look better, your credibility will skyrocket. Now, earlier in this course, I walked you through all the steps of how to look your best on TV. So if someone starts off sitting back and their double chins are showing like this and you show them in the first couple of minutes, hold yourself high leaned forward and you'll have a stronger jaw line.
Well, bow, your credibility has skyrocketed. They're really going to listen to everything you say now. They're going to be thankful to you because they were insecure about it. So that's why it's critical that you stop you start with the video, and getting them comfortable with the whole idea of actually rehearsing on video.
