Hey, welcome back. Here we are in week two demos. So let's dive right in. Okay, so, in order to find work, you need a demo, you need to start with a demo. Generally, when people start and have their first demo made, they do a commercial demo. That is just an audio file of various clips of jobs that you would be right for, or really jobs that you know you've done.
This is a demo of my work, but if you've never done any jobs before, then you need to make some up. I highly recommend you do not let your commercial demo go over one minute. 60 seconds is about all people can handle anymore with how short attention span have gotten lately. You start with your commercial demo. And then later, you can add other more specific demos like say, a animation demo, or a narration or documentary or an on and on and on all different types of demos. But for now, let's start with your commercial demo.
I recommend you hire a professional demo producer, especially for your first demo. It's a whole market that people you know, that has a certain sound quality that people listen for. So if you want a demo that competes, I recommend that you hire a professional, you have a lot of options. I mean, you can do a quick Google search and find a demo producer in your area. Most likely, you can do remote demo sessions and hire a demo producer somewhere else. The prices range from $400 to upwards of $2,000.
And my opinion 400 is too cheap and two grand is way too much. Spend what works for you and if it seems like these are pricey, keep in mind that they use theirs studio in booth to direct and record you, they should write the copy for you. They edit it, they pull from their music and sound effects libraries and lay your voice down into a music bed. Then about two weeks later, you should have a polished 62nd demo. Also keep in mind, you'll be able to use this demo for years and years and possibly hundreds of thousands of dollars to come. So this may sound like such a giant sum of money, but you're using it to make you money.
Demos used to be long, and on a tape or CD that you had to make a ton of copies of put them in an envelope and go down to the post office every time you wanted someone to hear your demo CD. So this process has gotten so much simpler. demos today are a piece of cake compared to how they used to be. So make that demo be your top priority if you don't have it already. And once you've got your demo file from the demo producers, start uploading that demo on various places online to show people what you can do. You can also take your demo and submit it to producers that keep a roster of talent and agencies and everything else.
But those people most often won't consider you unless you have some credits. So I'm starting with online strategies and techniques. First, your first demo should be a commercial demo. It should be 60 seconds long and you should have it professionally made. That is what is going to get your workflow running smooth and that will you know, get things started for you.
