DESCRIPTION: 
Baseline Step 1:

Use a pincer grasp
Grip the trapezius (the fleshy area) between the neck and shoulder
Moving your fingers back and forth over your thumb
Try to cover as much of the area as possible from close to the neck all the way out to the top of the shoulder
Feel for tender knots or achy areas 

Baseline Step 2: 

Using your finger pads
Rub front to back on the side of the neck
Rub front to back on the back of the neck
Feel for tender knots and sensitive areas

Now you have a baseline for how things feel in the area of your neck. You can recheck periodically as you're doing the techniques to feel if they are changing. Now you are ready to move on to the rest of the techniques.This first set of techniques will be done in the mouth.
