When I coach women individually, I say that the free world can't be your job search target. It's really overwhelming to set out thinking that you would work for any company. With an open-ended approach, it's very hard to make any real traction. The key to success is to create what I call "buckets" for (at least initially) two or three kinds of employers you're most interested in. Then you start putting companies that interest you in those buckets so you have actual targets for research and networking. For example, you might have healthcare marketing expertise and create, for example, three different buckets: healthcare marketing agencies, pharmaceutical companies that have in-house marketing departments, and hospitals. The companies you put in the buckets are within your desired commute or you want to research if they have remote opportunities.
