Well my hostess with mostess and guestest with the bestest, you are getting pretty close to maestro status. In fact, I heard whispers of your name down the corridor just this morning. I reckon, if you keep going, it won’t just whisper, it will be cheering and chanting. Can you hear it? Can you feel it? It gives me shivers. Not sure about you?

By now we have covered the formalities of virtual meetings: the do’s and don’ts of virtual meeting behaviors; how to select a chairperson; how to host a meeting; and how to be a great guest. Now it’s time to look at some of the considerations most of us tend to miss, that being our virtual body language.

Yes, despite the fact that we are on a virtual medium, it doesn't mean our counterparts cannot see us. In fact, we actually encourage you to ask for cameras to remain on, the reasons for this:

  • You can see the non-verbal cues that other people signal through their body language. This is really important for you to read.
  • Other people can better connect with you when they can see you, it adds more dimension than just hearing a voice. When we see people’s faces and their body language it improves communication and understanding.
  • A virtual meeting is replacing a physical meeting, a virtual meeting is not replacing a telephone call.

So in this episode, you will learn about body language to avoid, body language to use, and camera placement for virtual meetings to ensure you are portraying a professional impression.

Lights! Camera! Action!
