How do we find internal obstacles when our clients simply wants to achieve specific goals? underneath seemingly external obstacles and stretch goals can be an internal obstacle. This is especially true when the external obstacle or goal is something within the clients power to achieve, but they have not been able to do so in the past. Let's take a look at some external obstacles or goals that a client might want to bring to coaching. Here are some goals, relationships. I want to be a better leader career.
I want to have an organized office health. I want to create a healthy life style, leisure. I want to master the game of golf money. I want to have a balanced budget. One simple strategy for coaches to uncover the internal obstacle is to ask the question, but what and then look for a limiting belief statement. Here's some examples.
I want to be a better leader instead of forging ahead into Leadership Studies and behaviors, first, look at any limiting belief that might sabotage forward movement. Ask, but what and the client may say, because I do not have the confidence or courage to really lead others. This is the belief that must be shifted first. What about I want to have an organized office before having the client study organizational skills ask, but what? But I don't think it's worth spending time organizing when I can spend time being creative, they might say the internal belief, health, I want to create a healthy lifestyle. before having the client design yet another calendar filled with diet, exercise, sleep schedules, and so forth.
Ask but what they might say, but a healthy lifestyle sounds boring and constrictive leisure. I want to master the game of golf. But really, I think that it's a waste of time or money. I want to have a balanced budget But I'm afraid of what it might look like. If I look too closely at my finances. That's scary.
As a coach, ask yourself, how much headway Can you make with your client? If these enter thoughts are not brought to light and addressed? Don't you want your client to achieve his or her goals in the most effective, efficient and sustainable way? Don't you want the client to save you two years down the road and say, I'm still on that path that I chose.
