Ah in the heart process, hearing to identify. Notice that the word heart has as its first four letters here hga R, which is a vital component of coaching for change and growth. The coach's job is to help the client examine beliefs and challenge assumptions. coaches can hear beliefs easily in the clients communications, if they know what to listen for. The coach can assist the client to bring the belief to light by helping to put it into words thus, identifying the belief. Once into words, the client can make a decision about the belief is it something that is a benefit or not?

Here's a thought by Norman Vincent Peale that speaks to this process. Change your thoughts and your change your world. An example of bringing unexamined beliefs to light is the story of the young woman newly married, who always chop the ends off of mix and throw them away. Before she backed or roasted them. Her husband questioned the wisdom of what he considered waste. She said, I learned that from my mother, so it must be correct.

When they saw her mother and question her about it, she said, Well, that's what I learned from your grandmother. Then they questioned the grandmother who said, Oh, the only reason I did that was because my pan was too small to cook the whole piece of meat. We want our clients to get the full benefit of the changes they want to make. Rather than blindly following unexamined actions. Think of all that wasted very good. Let's explore the revealing world of red flags for beliefs.

When any of these are present, then limiting beliefs and unexamined mindsets or applying, hear or listen closely to the clients discussion, and you might find these red flags, judgments and opinions of self or others. If you hear absolute thinking or generalizations negative feelings such as fear, resistance, anger sadness, or any problems or concerns in general in judgments and opinions, An example might be Jane should be more calm or Tom is not doing a good job, or I should be more centered. Hearing recognizing and mirroring back these judgments helps the client to become more aware and able to make a choice about keeping them or not. Take a look at absolutes and generalizations. Here are some examples. I am always nervous about meeting new people.

That's just the way it is. They never support my efforts. Work all people are such and such, Americans are all such and such, or Europeans are all such and such. If you can fill in the blanks, then you understand what these statements sound like. And these are all generalizations if you find words like always, never or vast generalizations about other people, groups or situations, then you are hearing a belief, a limiting belief. absolutes and generalizations are particularly debilitating because they are often based on cultural biases harder to spot and leave no room for change middle ground or gray areas.

With judgments, opinions, absolutes and generalizations, the statement you hear is the belief statement to explore or challenge. Let's look at another category of red flags of limiting beliefs those negative feelings. negative feelings that block our clients from taking action are indicators that limiting beliefs are in play. feelings can be tricky too, as they are not the bottom line or not the belief statement per se, they are indicators that there is something we are telling ourselves that is eliciting the negative feeling. We want our clients to get to the belief statement, rather than be stuck in the feeling. So examples might be with feelings.

Just use your curiosity and ask because why? To get it the belief. Remember we use this before when we were looking at external goals and obstacles. Because why? For example, I am angry at Bob asked because why? The person might say, because he doesn't respect me.

That is your belief statement. Here's another one. I feel scared when I think about being on TV, because why? Because I will look silly. That's the belief statement. The final category of limiting belief flags are problems or concerns in general.

They imply that the client has a feeling about the status actuation of person and exploring them in a similar way as looking at negative beliefs will help to learn that
