A part of heart sure is very satisfying for a coach to experience life changing positive shifts in clients. But sometimes this doesn't happen in session. Understand that coaching is a process over time, allow the change process to happen over time. Look for those incremental changes. The more that the client does in this process, the more that they will integrate and follow through on the energetic changes they experienced. This allowing denotes a higher level of coaching.
The coach does not need To be the hero and spur the client to take action. The mature coach allows actions to spring forth organically. Here are some other thoughts about allow allowing the client to take the lead. Ask, how do you want to start? Or what do we address next? This is what coaching partnership looks like.
Allow yourself to be surprised by the creativity and wisdom of your clients choices. Allow the client to make choices and take actions that you would not make or take or didn't even think of. Allow the client to make mistakes and learn from them. For example, When I first started with my coach, she asked me what actions I wanted to take before our next session. I listed about 25 significant actions, and she did not say a word. When I came back for my next session, she said, Well, did you achieve your goals for the two week period?
I said, No, it was too much. She asked me what my learning was. And I said, Wow, I guess I tend to bite off more than I can chew. That was my first significant insight in my coaching engagement, and I never forgot it. More allows, allow yourself to let go of your opinions, judgments and beliefs about how your client should move forward. Or what their learning should be?
Yes, we need to address our own limiting beliefs in relationship to our clients. The keys to unlock the door to a allow are the alchemical principles of kindness and acceptance, kindness and acceptance of mindfulness disciplines and sacred practices that can change your life when applied consciously, as well as serving to create a safe place for the client to explore new possibilities.
