People cause themselves a great deal of unnecessary distress trying to change or control things that they have no ability to change or control.
First up I&rsquo;d like you to make a list of anyone, other than yourself, you have been trying to change or control. Now list the things or situations you can't control directly, but which you have tried to change or keep wishing were different.
How well is it working for you when you focus so much on the things you don't or can't control? Choose one or two of the things you can't control and start putting less energy into changing them, or wishing they were different. You may never be able to like them, but you can work towards accepting them.
Now, look at the things you can control directly. The only things you can control directly are what you think and what you do. Remember you can't directly control how you feel [your emotions], or your physiology, these will change after you change how you think and act.
