Let's have a look at posing the body. Some of the basic principles we're going to cover in this section are why seating is best for head portraits. How full body can create shape and drama. How we want to avoid crotch shots with full bodies from the basic roles, and how if the subject is larger, we can open the shape up by opening the elbows which is going to slim the subject. So it's going to have a look at some of these setups and see how that actually looks in our 3d Studio. Now, why do we want to set up subject one of the main reasons we want to set up a subject is they don't move so much.

If you have someone standing up and you're trying to do a hedge on what's gonna happen, they're gonna shuffle and move and you're gonna lose the pose, but if they're sitting, they tend to stay in the same place and they can also relax So that's really important, they can relax in between shots. So we always want to have a stall or some thing where they can sit. Now this is what's called the crotch shot. And although it might be fashionable in some circles at the moment, special female models, it's actually not flattering to the subject. And what it basically means is the crotch is open. It doesn't look good on a man, it definitely doesn't look good on a lady.

So we want to avoid that while taking full length portraiture. So that's something we definitely want to avoid. Now, what was talking about earlier, if our subject is a little bit heavier, what we want to do is want to open up the shape of their body. So the way we would do that is by opening the elbows up, so we would pose them with the elbows in some space in between the elbows. It doesn't have to be strong as this this is very strong. Probably drop the hands a little bit lower or slide the hands down onto the file a little bit, but leave some space and that's going to show the curves.

And that's going to help us to slim the subject. Now another thing to notice when we have the body straight on at the camera is going to widen the body. But if we go a 45 degree angle like we have here from the camera, we can see that it's going to slim the body is slimming the width of the body down. And again, that's something the lady is going to appreciate you for they like to look slim. So we want to turn them off slightly and the same with the gentleman who want to turn them off slightly, and that will help just slim downs. Now, with some shots, it might be of a sportsman, they're going to want to be broad, they're going to want to look muscular.

In that case, you might bring them straight on into the camera, but in most cases, most people are happy. If you're slimming them down. Have a very slim sub Object obviously, don't use this technique, then you might want to bring them full onto the camera and just create some interesting shapes straight on rather than to the side. Now this is another 45 degree sharp but this is a text to shot and we're texture shot like this what we're doing is she is facing into the fill light, she's not facing into the main light with her body. Now she can turn a face into the camera. But what this is going to do this is going to add texture across the subject.

So let's just have a look at the lighting setup for that so you can understand exactly what I'm saying. So as you can see we've got a main light which is an up to box, lighting the subjects face and then the fill light on the opposite side is just coming across the button is just lighting it up a little bit on the front. If we just turn that light off you can see The main light has dropped dramatically. Let's bring that back up. If we turn the umbrella off, we can now see there's a very strong shadow. So we've got a lot of text yet.

Now all we've done with the umbrella is we've switched the umbrella on just ease off a little bit, we don't get too dark, we're not too dramatic. In most scenarios, sometimes you might want that wear a wedding dress, you might want to create a very strong texture shot across the subject. But the way we do that is by turning the subject into the fill light rather than the main light if we're using a to light setup, and that's just going to create that little bit of tech shift particularly good for wedding dresses with the embroidery or anything that where you want to create a bit of interest, bit of texture.
