So hopefully you have your characters more or less fleshed out, and you've tested them either in the q&a discussion or comments section in this course, or elsewhere. Now let's talk outlines and treatments. Quite simply, the outline is the skeleton of your story, kind of like the synopsis you see on every film's IMDb movie page, for example. It's short, easy to understand, and covers the entire story in less than three minutes worth of reading. Very quickly. Here's the outline I did for my short film The painter.

As you can see, I did it in the form of a beat sheet, which is a specific type of outline, where instead of writing out in prose or narrative format, you do it in bullet points. So here we see the setting of the story, table blight and unsuccessful painter in solitaries paints a nature scene based off photograph Next, we have the treatment, which is a more detailed version of an outline with lots of visual and aesthetic information written in. This is normally the document you would use to flesh out your script, since it includes so much rich and descriptive detail. Think of it as a synopsis plus summary, plus a little bit of Novel Writing combined. So he has a treatment for the same short film. As you can see, it's almost like a narrative essay where I go into the details of describing the MS onset of my short story from production design details to time of the day, as well as the environment in space.

For example, His entire attic space drenched in weeks of accumulated mess, seems almost unbearable and uninhabitable for the average everyday man although the soft orange Coming from the daylight sun in an unblocked window gives the entire environment somewhat warm and mysterious charm. Now you can just as easily find more examples of outlines and treatments online by doing a quick Google search for a better idea of the different styles and writing available. But since we're here to help you get on track to creating your shot as quickly as possible, I've saved the search time for you by including in this lesson document containing some sites with samples for your reference. Of course, whenever you're done, and would like some feedback or would just like to share your drafts with us do post your outlines, treatments or documents in the q&a box at start sharing.
