All right now that you pretty much have your story, characters and world all set, it's time to start putting on your producer cap. Remember, you might be excited to write out your story right now. But you also need to think about producing it practically. start first by planning or thinking of a timeline, and how much time you want to spend, ideally, to produce this project. Now, I know what you might be thinking, some of you might think, well, I'm just going to give it as much time as it needs. No, no, that's not what a professional would do.
And don't get me wrong. Some people do work well with no time limits. But if you want to be treated professionally, you first got to know that there will be a deadline for when the film gets done. And that is when filmmakers can start sharing their films with others. Now, think of timeline in terms of not just the length of The short film, but also the different phases and how long you think each phase would take, based on the current resources needed for your story right now. For example, if your story takes place in a sci fi fantasy world, expect to add more months in post production.
If your story takes place in 10 different locations, expect a lot of planning time in both pre production and production. All in all, timeline planning is just to give you a rough estimate of not only how much time you need, but how complex your story is right now to produce
