Now the last step is to actually have a beat. I've been playing with a steady beat, but maybe you haven't and that's okay. And we're going to count the beats out loud. I know, it's one more thing to do. I know, I know, I know. It's a lot to think about, but I promise you this.

It's just like exercising your body. If you go to the gym and you haven't been working out for a while or ever, and you pick up a two pound weight and you do some, I don't know. bicep curls, you get a little bit tired with those two pounds. And then the next day come back the two pounds or a little bit easier. The following week, you barely feel the two pounds. So you add you know, you do five pounds so you keep adding more and more weight because you're getting better and better at doing that thing, right?

And you want to challenge yourself otherwise you will never get stronger. It's the same thing in piano. This might feel like it's a lot. If you're not ready to count yet, you're just not ready. Don't worry, come back to this, this part. Don't go on with this video until you can play it without counting pretty consistently without making a whole lot of mistakes.

When you can play it and you feel comfortable, even if you don't have a steady beat, but you kind of know where the fingers are going and who comes in with what, then you're ready to count. Okay, so don't add this part until you're ready. It might be too much too soon. I don't want you to get frustrated, I want you to always challenge yourself just a little bit. Because that's how you're going to get better. Which means that you need to have gotten good enough at the previous step for it to feel good to challenge yourself.

If you're not making mistakes, you're really not learning anything new. So, when you make a mistake, you should be happy. Yay. I know that's not what our society teaches us. But it's true without the mistakes, you would never get better. So the trick is not to get so frustrated about by the mistakes that you give up, right?

So if your mistake is something that you can figure out, like, Oh, I see what's happening. My left hand isn't moving to the correct note. Great. Stop and figure out how to play that in a way that makes sense for you. And then put it together. All right.
