DESCRIPTION: CHALLENGE:
If you haven't already, now is the time to get serious about scheduling AT LEAST 5 minutes a day (better yet, 10-20 minutes a few different times throughout the day) to turn on the parasympathetic (REST + DIGEST) nervous system. You might literally need to schedule this into your calendar, but treat it as important as drinking water or feeding your body. You can revisit the meditations in this course during this time if you need some guidance. Do whatever it takes to get present and relax (i.e. turn on the ventral vagus nerve) and see how your body eventually softens in response. I promise your kids will thank you later.
ASSIGNMENT:
Teach your kiddos the hand model of the brain. If they don't seem to respond well to that explanation, find some other way to create a symbol or signal that family members can use to communicate they are becoming dysregulated. Start to practice sharing with your kids - and encouraging them to share with you - when dysregulation is happening....
