Hi, in this lesson, we're going to find out how to use the program Audacity. audacity is a program that you download to a computer. It enables you to record and edit sounds. I'm very fond of it because it's simple, easy to use, and you can do a lot with it. I sometime use it with my students instead of making a film. Instead of finding costumes and locations and so on, they can focus on the content and create extraordinary worlds.

When they record, they have to be aware of their communication to make it as clear and precise as possible. It's good in language education because they hear themselves and make an effort to make it sound right. I also use it in history, where they can create a world of yesterday by using music and sound effects. You can lead them to a new story, where they make an interview with the man living In London during the Second World War. To do that they have to gather information about that time in history to be able to deliver a realistic interview. I also use it in Danish, where I let them make a radio play from a short story.

To do that they have to get behind the world and find the deeper meaning. As a teacher, you can use Audacity to make podcasts, you can record your presentations of the subject your teaching. Videos are often used in flipped education, but sometimes I think students will benefit from only hearing you probably know about the different learning styles, and some students learn better when they hear. So you can vary by making podcasts as well as videos and texts. Remember that you can use sound effects and background music as well to make your presentations colorful, so to speak. The more engaging and creative your presentations are, the more creative and engaging presentations you can expect from your students.

For some students, writing is a challenge. They will benefit from making podcasts instead of a book report because they can focus on the matter, instead of being slowed down by their difficulties. audacity has a lot of possibilities, as you will see, let's start. We'll begin by move to Google. We have to find the program or test see see there's a lot of links here and it's important that you find the best place to download audacity from and I use this audacity team.org their official site to download the program. And when you're here, then you can download it by pressing this button, and it will install on your computer and you are able to use it.

I have downloaded it. And now I have the program here. You'll see it's it's blank, there's nothing in it. And this is our, our program. And if I want to record something, I go up here, we have these buttons that you probably know, pause and play, stop, go back and go forward and record. And if I press this record, you'll see that what I'm saying is here graphically, and you can see up here, how how high the level is.

And it's a bit higher I think I can, I can stop it and then you can, you're able to, to turn it down a bit And then I have now I have recorded something. Can you hear it? It's behind here. And then I'm recording what I want to record. And perhaps I wasn't finished. And then I can make another recording to put behind the this one and I just press turn off Yes, so I am not hearing this when I'm recording the next, then I'm recording again.

Now see two tracks, new tracks coming in here. Boom, we stop again. And my problem is now that if I play these tracks will play simultaneously. The time is is is here. You can see it here by the seconds. And now I would like to move this section to the end of the other track then probably This time tu tu tu tu tu tu tu tu and now I have pushed it to the end of the other recording.

Easy. Now I want to, to do something about this. This track, it's possible for me to, to put on some effects, and I have to go back to this marking tool and mark my will will take all of this, then I press effects, then I'm able to put on echo or to adjust the pace or the tone of voice. Sometimes, if you have two girls making an interview, they have to pretend one of them is a man then you can make the girl's voice sound like a man by using some of these effects. It's so fun to to play with. We can put some wild while on this sounds terrible but sometimes you can make make a megaphone and make it sounds if you put an echo for example, you can make it sound like you're some where else that then you you are is you can also put in some some sound files.

You have to put push this button file and go to imports. And this is sound is loose in Danish and I have some, some sounds in a file. I have been getting them from the net in the resources section. There are links to pages where you can find background music and sound effects and they're free and you are you you are loved. Houston, we take this here, persona, only to hear this. Now I have created a setting that where you believe that you are at a train station, and you're hearing these sounds, and sound has some way of making images in your head.

And this is what you're going to use when you're using Audacity. And we can put it with my voice as well. We press this Soto button off, and then we're going to hear it and now I can hardly hear my own voice so I have to turn the volume down here on this I could put it in the rights and the left Speaker and if I want to delete it, I can just push this this one here, and then the sound effect is deleted. Now it sounds like this. And I can also put in some some music. Import sound again, and I have some music here.

Yeah, and then I can arrange these all this sound effects and my recording of what I'm saying and move it around. Doo doo doo doo doo as I want to to create my story and when I'm finished, we just push This one, and I'm able to save the project. And then I save this project and I have to and I'm I can continue working on it later. But I have to, to work on this computer because it's saved here. If I want to export it as a mp3 file, I press export. And then I can save it and it's mixed together.

But you have to be, be aware that the sounds have to be adjusted to one another. So it's, you can hear you know, what's important for you to, to to hear. I give it a name, let's call it test. And then I press Save and, okay. And okay and now my file is being mixed and I can use it As the podcasts, it's mp3 and I can send it to my students or they can send it to me. And we're able to hear it.

And this is the very basics of this program, you can do a lot, and this was just some of it, try to play with it and experiment with it. And when you show it to a students, I'm sure they're going to go crazy and learn a lot. Sometimes when we use these kinds of programs, it's some of them are very good at it, and learn it very fast. And you can use them as to help you to to help the other students. It's very valuable for them to to have that role to be experts in in some of these programs, and then you don't have to run around to 2828 34 students. So I think this is it's You will come to write comments or questions in the comments field and check out the links and resources.

Okay, bye
