Welcome back. This video is about what to do when the target of corruption, the person being offered a bribe is you. Do you have the power to influence the decision? Can you decide who becomes your company's distributor in a particular country? Or which contract that gets a valuable contract? Or whether to overlook the failure to achieve a term in a contract?

If you can't actually make that decision, can you influence the person who does? If so, someone sometime somewhere is going to offer you a bribe. It's happened to me, and one day it'll happen to you. If you're tempted, I just like you to know that someone will know someone always knows once you've accepted a bribe, because that is what you'll be doing. Your behavior changes, and so does the behavior of the people who paid you. People see those changes and they know what you've done.

Your colleagues will know your boss will know your competitors will know. And perhaps Worst of all, you will know. Long time ago now I joined a company as international sales director and found that we had a very questionable agency agreement with a company in a country known for its high level of corruption. They were the wrong people with the wrong contracts in the wrong place. The man looking after the account told me who would be responsible a man who would left the company sometime earlier. I believed what I was told Why wouldn't I?

I was new there. It was only later that I came to understand that I'd probably been misled. I couldn't prove it. I can't prove it now. But my regard for the man looking after the account changed or not for the better. I hope you found the money I was sure he'd accepted.

Worth it. How do you deal with it? Simple. Just say I'm sorry. simply can't accept money from anyone other than my employer, they'll get the message. I'm not just talking about money.

By the way, anything that has a price should raise a question in your mind. I've been offered a woman before. Now, if your customer wants to buy you a meal, that's okay. But I always made sure I return the compliment. a modest gift at Christmas is probably all right. But I preferred to send emails a month before saying that to avoid any hint of rudeness that he was or might convey, we were informing all customers that are stuck with barred from accepting gifts.
