In this video, I want to teach you how to play effortlessly. And this addresses the question that a lot of people see when they first start learning the guitar, which is that it actually hurts your fingertips a lot more than you ever would have expected. And this can be a huge pain. And this is actually probably the major reason that a lot of people quit the guitar before they ever get good enough to learn to enjoy it. And so in this video, I have six tips that will specifically teach you how to be able to play the guitar effortlessly and make it more fun for you. So the first tip I have is start with the basics.

A lot of people they'll see that there's songs that they want to learn that are really fancy, they're you know, all of the there may be doing these techniques are great and I want you to get there but if you start with more basic chords, you'll find that it's a lot easier to get good quickly. That is the purpose of this course is to get you really good at these chords. That already sound really good. And then if you added some cool picking patterns, then this will actually carry you on A lot farther than you might expect. The second tip I have is to choose your guitar wisely. And the best way to do this is if you can go into a guitar shop and sit down with a lot of different guitars, there's three main kinds of guitars.

And they are first the acoustic steel string. And that's what most of my students have. They're really good for that kind of stuff. The second one is a nylon string acoustic, and those are actually a lot easier on your fingertip. They're actually the same type of strings. As you'll find on a ukulele, they're nylon, so they're not as sharp feeling.

And it's really easy to learn to play out a dialogue string. That's actually what I learned about myself, and what I would recommend for most of my students. The third type is the electric guitar. And I think this is even easier to play than a steel string most of the time too, because the strings are really low to the fretboard and they're really easy to bend like you'll see. It's just easy to push them down. There's not a lot of resistance going on.

So I would definitely recommend checking those out. The third tip, I have For this video is to practice in short periods. And this is actually a very big deal. If you're trying to sit down and set aside an hour to practice the guitar, especially at the beginning, that's going to destroy your fingertips, and you'll probably quit really fast. But if you can sit down for maybe five minutes at a time, or 10 minutes at a time, and do it consistently, maybe sit down before dinner, sit down after dinner, sit down, you know, right before you're about to head out to meet somebody, and just make a habit of constantly sitting down with your guitar, you'll see massive improvement. And one way that's really effective to get this started is to put your guitar physically in your house somewhere that you'll see it constantly where you're moving in and out and where every time you see it, you're like, Oh, yeah, let's practice for a second.

And then you pray and then you, you don't pray, you play for a second. And then after that, you put it down and you move on with your day, and then you sit down and it becomes really addicting. But if you do long, like marathon practices, it's gonna hurt and you'll probably quit really quickly. My fourth tip is to play close to the fret. You'll notice it's easier to play when you're right up next to the fret. So here I am on the fifth fret is really solid.

But as I move away, it gets less and less solid. just hard to press down. That'll save you a lot of pain. My fifth tip actually comes from Eric Clapton. And he actually puts apple cider vinegar on his fingertips of the hand that's actually playing the friends. So this handout here, so you can try that it's pretty effective.

What it does is it dries it out, so you get calluses faster. Some guitarists will also grease the fretboard to make it easier to play. I actually just recently read an interview from Japanese guitarist who's one of my favorites. And he said that when they were recording some of their old albums like don't stop believin and stuff like that, he would actually wipe a nasty like piece of salami on the fret board just to make it smooth. And I wouldn't recommend that but there's different kinds of spray that you can find in guitar shops where you just spray it on the fret board and it makes it play more smoothly. And my final tip to play effortlessly is to use effects.

You'll find that when you're under completely dry sound like I am right now if you make any mistakes It's just easier to hear it and they're really out there and it's just easy for people to pick up on it. But if you use a little bit of reverb or delay or even distortion or like a blue stripe, then you'll find that it's a lot smoother feeling
