DESCRIPTION: What: Here we are going to teach the puppies to look at us. Why: This can form the basis of, and help, with many behaviors, for example, if you are teaching loose lead walking, or a Sit/Stay. Eye contact can be a threatening behavior for dogs, therefore we want to teach our puppies that eye contact is a positive thing. It also gives us a tool for our pups to check in with us before going off to do something. How: Show your pup/dog that you have a treat in your hand in your fist, put your fist out to the side, When they look away from your hand towards you, mark it with your marker word &lsquo;Yes, Good or Clicker&rsquo; and reward. Tips: In the video, there are a few missed opportunities to mark the behavior, Woody looks towards Gavin a few times, this is why timing is important. With Woody, he gives perfect eye contact now.
