DESCRIPTION: What: Teaching our dogs manners around food Why: We want to teach our puppies to exercise self-control around our food and not pinch food off us or from our plates. This is an exercise I would do at least once a day for the next month or so. &lsquo;Food manners&rsquo; is a wonderful game that we can play with our dogs. It's a great way of teaching impulse control and promoting free-thinking from our dog. We want the dogs to learn to think for themselves as quickly as possible. How: Grab a small bowl, tub or container with some food in it Kneel down, sit on a cushion or on a chair Place your hand on top of the bowl or container Pup is likely to try to get the food, they may paw your hand or try to get their nose into the bowl The second they back off, mark, then reward them from the bowl Repeat for all the treats To build this exercise up over time: You can start to move the bowl around.
