The term &lsquo;trigger stacking&rsquo; refers to an accumulation of stress caused by a series of encounters with things your dog might react to. A &lsquo;trigger&rsquo; can be any sight, sound, or scent your dog is worried about. Stress can be good or bad, it&rsquo;s just a term that describes what happens when cortisol and adrenalin are released into the body. When something stressful happens, cortisol levels rise in the body to get ready for the fight or fight response. Sometimes it can take up to 72 hours for cortisol levels to return to normal.
