DESCRIPTION: What: You have been working this week on adding duration to the sit (the length of time they stay in a sit) by adding a delay before marking the behavior. This time we are going to increase the distance between us and our dogs after we have asked for a sit. Why: Teaching a Sit/Stay is beneficial in so many ways. Whether it be for safety, training, or competing, a Sit or Down stay is an important behavior to teach. How:For now, we are not going to include the duration you have been practicing because each time we teach a new behavior we need to go back to basics.Ask your pup to sit (down is also fine)Take one step away then immediately step forward one step, back to your dog [I’ve found people seem to find it difficult to resist adding duration at the same time hence suggestion for clarification!]Mark (‘Good’ or ‘Yes’) and reward them (where they are sat)Take two steps away then immediately step forward two steps, back to your dogMark (Good or Yes)...
