DESCRIPTION: What: Here we are adding duration (time) to the sit. Why: In order to prove a sit, we need to train the puppies to sit (or lay down) and to stay there, we then over the next couple of weeks will add distractions and distance to the sit. You never know when you may need your dog to stay when you open your boot when you go into a new area when the front door is open etc. Here we start to add duration to the sit, which simply means we increase the length of time we want them to remain in the sit (or down). How: Grab some food (you could use a toy for this) Ask for a sit (if they go into a down, that is also fine) Start to count in your head (1, 2) then Mark (Yes or Good) and feed Then start to increase the time 1 second at a time Repeat about 5 times, then work on it again later
Tips: Work on building it up one second at a time, if at any time they get up off the floor go back to when they would stay down, so for example if you managed to count to 5 one time, the next time you try...
