DESCRIPTION: What: The second part to the Mat Settle Why: This is now making the mat a really good place to be for the puppy, making it clear that if they stay on the mat then good stuff happens. How: Start with the pup on the mat Reinforce a few times on the mat Encourage them to walk away with you Walk back towards the mat looking at the mat When the pup goes back to the mat and offers a sit or down (if they don't then give them 5 seconds and ask for a sit) 'Mark and Reward' on the mat If your pup goes straight to the mat each time you walk back to it you can now add a cue 'Go to your Mat' You can also use your hand as a guide When they are on the mat Mark and Reward them Throw the food away from the mat to get the pup to come off the mat Ask them to go to their mat Have fun Tips: For now take the mat away unless you are having a training session, or you may miss opportunities to reinforce the behavior.
