DESCRIPTION: What: In this video, we show you how to teach a hand target. Why: We can use a Hand Touch as a target, and therefore use it for a large number of things in terms of training. We use a Hand Touch to ask our dogs off the sofa, for recall, if they're feeling unsure if I need someone to walk past us, to teach them tricks, and also to use as a guide to show them where to go. How: As soon as their nose touches your hand Mark and Reward from the hand Present your hand to your dog (I like to do this from behind my back) dogs are naturally curious and are likely to investigate. As soon as his nose touches your hand, mark the behavior and reward. Take your hand away, put it behind your back, wait for a second or two, and then present it again. Repeat this exercise until your dog is touching your hand whenever you present it. For some dogs this can take a while, its important not to push them.
