In the previous videos, we talked about proximity, unity, and alignment. These concepts are vital in order to understand what we are about to talk, consistency and repetition. Let's start with repetition. Repetition in graphic design has two fundamental meanings. The first one, the easiest to understand, is the repetition of a graphic element in order to reinforce or exasperate its importance in our design. We can repeat the word many times to force the viewer to read it and understand its importance.
The second meaning is more complex and strictly connected to the concept of consistency. To understand it, we need to talk later about consistency. in graphic design, consistency is fundamental. Since being consistent we can obtain as much and pleasant result in our design. To achieve consistency, we need to choose a precise design scheme and use it throughout the whole design. In practice, it means choosing a style for a design element and repeating it every time the element appears in the design.
So here it is why consistency and repetitions are connected. For example, if we are designing them a new for a restaurant, we have to choose a design style for the drink or food page. We also have to think of font and size for the dishes and their ingredients sections. Now, it is much better to choose a single style for all the positions and use it every time. Same for the ingredients sections. Despite the fact that sections are colored in different ways, the repetition of the same style for dishes and its ingredients will give the right consistency Remember, every time the consistency is being broken, we point out a precise meaning that will catch the viewers attention.
That's why it's a good idea to color the pages for dishes and the pages for drinks in a different way. In this way, the design will be consistent, since the same style for dishes and ingredients is repeated for the whole document. But we point out that there is a difference between the two sections making the menu faster to read. The objective of a good design is to supply information in a faster and more accessible way. We are almost at the end of our courts. The last topic that we will talk about will be the power of contrast.
See you in the next video.
