Hello everyone. In the last video, we will talk about the importance of contrast in design. Contrast is basically a confrontation between characteristic of two or more elements. It is useful to separate concepts in our design. Make an element pop out from the rest or exaggerate the characteristic of an element that it's hard to define on its own. Let's see some examples.
One of the most common ways to create contrast is to use colors. For example, in this design, I filled the page with words referring to happiness, and other words referring to sadness. To create a contrast between these two concepts. Let's choose two different colors. I like to be extreme and I choose two complimentary colors, red and green. To make everything more dynamic, I just different tints and shades for both red and green.
As you can see, it's really easy now to perceive this concept, two different divided realities that share the same space. Let's watch another example. In this design, I fill the page with random words. Inside oldest counts, it appears the word love. I want to convey the really simple concept that in chaos, love is all that matters. To do so, I paint all the words with Shades of Grey except love.
That will be bright red. As you can see, despite this word is tiny and doesn't occupy an important position in our composition. It catches our eye and becomes the protagonist in my design. For the last example, I want to go back to our NFL. Do you remember him? He helped us when we were talking about why space.
Our problem is again, how do we suggest the idea that he is big. With contrast, we have the definitive solution for this. Our perception of what is big or what is more depends on our subjective experience as human beings. That means that the feather is more referring to us, human beings. Of course, a house is big, always because we refer to our own size. Let's try to put the elephant next to a human figure.
What it is. With this technique, we are able to communicate the exact size of our elephant. Of course, we are now able to define unusual sizes like a gigantic feather or a tiny house. Thank you, elephant. We have reached the end of our course. We have learned the most important concepts of graphic design We define it the most important arguments and most of all, we learn how these concepts are connected with each other in order for you to have a solid, basic knowledge for your further studies.
