The principles of learning in animals have been well-studied and well-documented, and modern-day professional dog trainers and canine behaviourists make daily use of this knowledge. Familiarizing ourselves with these basic principles helps us understand&nbsp;how&nbsp;dogs learn, which in turn helps us to get them to learn what we want them to learn.
Taking these principles into account when working with our dogs inevitably helps our training be more effective and successful, and can help us predict how a dog will behave in a given situation, faced with a certain trigger or given set of circumstances. Knowledge of these principles can also help us understand what happened when our efforts at training fail: why did our dog not do what we hoped he would do?
