In this lecture, we are going to learn the advantages of podcast over traditional radios. Say when you get interviewed in a radio channel, some radio channels might not have a recorded version on the internet. What do you do? How do you take a reference? Is it a fluke? That's the big problem with terrestrial radio.

And that's why I say if you've reached the level to where time means a lot to you, and you're getting a lot of interviews, I would say go ahead and turn down those terrestrial radio shows that are only through the airwaves and don't post archives online. And there are also radio shows out there, which hosts archives online but they do a terrible job with the quality, right, the quality, they don't have any show notes. There are no key terms. There's no description. It's just an mp3 file. I would say that those shows probably aren't going to do you, too.

Well. But again, if you're starting out, then it's good practice to do those shows, so that you can work your way so that when you do something more important, you'll be more prepared. So that's where podcasts come into play. And that's the cool that you have talked about in your book, right? Yes. Well, when you say that's where they come into play, you mean, you mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, the benefits of podcasts, we can see the benefits of podcasts as compared to the traditional radio channels.

Like, it becomes more evident here. Yep. So so the the benefits of podcasts is, they're going to be on iTunes, they're going to be on their website forever. So you can do a podcast today, like you and I are doing this recording today. And 20 years from now, when we're both old men. I can go back one sec, one sec.

I'm supposed to do that. Nowadays. I'm gonna live to 150 at least so I'm not going to be old man after 20 Okay, well When we're still young man 20 years, he doesn't, you know, we're so young that I can go back and share this podcast with a new publicist, you know, or with a publishing company or a PR company and say, Hey, you know, I could I can talk to you on the phone and tell you all this or, here's, here's an interview I did 25 years ago on this podcast, I lay everything out. Take a listen to this. It's got all your answers. And people will be listening to this show to this podcast 2025 years from now.

That's the greatness of podcasts versus terrestrial radio, terrestrial radio am FM radio is similar to newsprint, newspapers, which are dying, which are in less circulation. Whereas podcasting is similar more to magazines because magazines, they have a longer shelf life. They have a pass along. In fact, there are some magazines at least the covers, which are still famous to this day. And so that that's really the greatness of podcasts because podcasts will stay well, they will have an imprint online forever. And when you say podcasts, you're also including the internet radio channels with archives like blocked off radio, right?

Yes, I am including those. Now I do have an issue. I did have some issues with blogtalkradio. I need to share them. Yes. So from a marketing perspective, let me share the difference between blogtalkradio and iTunes.

Now it's my understanding that iTunes is compatible with iOS devices. And so now if you look at people with their smartphones, most of them are carrying around a droid or an iPhone. Now they're also carrying around iPads, Mac computers, laptops, Mac laptops, air books. Things like that. Yeah. Now, MacBook Airs.

So the huge opportunity is Apple on every single one of these devices has the podcast app. Every single, every single one of these devices comes with that podcast. And what that means is people are now being exposed, they have access to this podcast app, and it's now more than 1 billion people worldwide. And so from a marketing perspective, being on iTunes is so beneficial because as a podcaster It is so beneficial because now you have access, you know that people are two or three clicks away from listening to your show. The other thing is the search engine optimization value of your of your podcasts. So when your show when someone Google's keywords, there's because you're on iTunes, the search engine optimization is much greater through iTunes, I guess because it is an Apple product then it is October Yes, yes.

And so as a result blogtalkradio that the production value is so poor. It's 64 kbps. Right. It's so poor, the quality is so low. iTunes is really, really the future and it won't surprise me if down the road blogtalkradio ends up being bought by one of these bigger players in the podcasting space. That's a good news, I guess.

And the Stitcher Radio is big on Android devices, I guess. Yeah. So the other the other aggregate what I call them our distributors. So there's iTunes tune in which has begun in Europe, Stitcher, which is big in on Android, SoundCloud, which is now becoming a direct competitor, really with iTunes. Is it? Okay, yeah, it's growing tremendously.

They do charge us right. They do charge us for hosting So to host you're gonna have to pay to host audio. Most of these places are going to charge but iTunes feed like iTunes is completely free. Well iTunes does not host what iTunes does. Right? They will grab the feeds from our website or from a host right?

Exactly, they'll grab it from the host. And so if you want to host Lipson is what I would recommend, like that's what I would recommend but now SoundCloud has hosting and they're competing directly
