Welcome to the final lesson of this course. Now at the start of the course, I said you we will go and have a look at the exterior of an engine and go through and start dissecting it and trying to figure out what each of the parts are. Now I want to give you an example, we know the air has to be drawn into the engine for combustion. If we look around here, do you recognize this item. This item here is a turbocharger that we saw a little bit earlier on in the course. So what I'm wondering now is, which side is for air, and which side is for exhaust gas.

Now we know air gets sucked into the middle, so it goes through this hole here. Or on the opposite side. You can't see the turbine and the compressor wheel because this is a simplified model. But let's have a look. If we sucked air in here, then it would go out and it would be discharged through this pipe and it would go into the engine on the other side, which suck air in, it comes out, comes along here, along here and then it goes into the engine. Again, this is the combustion space because the rocker arms are housed inside here.

So try to visualize that in your mind, the rocker arms and the tops of the valves are inside each of these black boxes, which means the combustion space is just below, which means the piston top dead center is probably going to be around here and bottom dead center. Maybe here it's moving up and down, up and down. But it's this for exhaust or is it for air? Well, it's most likely not the air. Why do I say that? Because we're not cooling the air down after it left the turbocharger can see it comes out here along there straight to the combustion space.

So I would argue this is an exhaustive Gas manifold, we go along over here. See, okay, let's imagine we're sucking air in through this side has more of a snail like shape, snail shape here. And that indicates to me that this is probably a volute casing. And we're discharging the air here. And it's going into the engine. And it looks like it's going into this black box on the top.

If I spin around, we can actually see that there is a big manifold coming out of the box here. So that's this entire section. And on the opposite side, this manifold is slightly bigger than the one over here. So imagine for a moment this is our exhaust gas manifold. It looks slightly smaller than this one. We know that we need more air to go into the combustion space.

To flush out some of the exhaust gas and also to ensure we have enough air within the cylinder liner in order to get efficient combustion. So I would say this item on the top here has something to do with air cooling. So we compress the air comes out the air is and cooled comes out again into the air manifold into the combustion space you can see where it connects on to the combustion space here. So we've just used that knowledge to find the air system and the exhaust gas system. And we can do the same thing to find the lubrication or system and the jacket water system. It spin the engine around for a moment.

We know that the jacket water pump is going to be driven off the crank shaft we know the lubrication or pump is going to be driven off the crank shaft. So it's most likely going to be one of these, this one here, or this one here. It's going to be driven by belts, maybe a chain or maybe gears So we can focus in on these two items. That would be one here, and one over here and try and discover what those two items are. Now if I go down here, you can see the belt is attached on to a pulley, and there's a shaft which probably runs through the middle here. Let's have a look what's connecting on to this particular component are some pipes coming off at here.

One of the pipes goes into the engine, the other one comes down, down. Where's that one going? It's going into the bottom of the engine. Now remember, before we had an oil sump, there is a place where we store our oil. That's going to be around this whole section here. Forever look on the bottom.

We can see where we drain the oil that would be through this hole here. So if you're doing an oil change, that's where you would drain the oil. So I'd say, Okay, if we've got a pipe that connects on to your reservoir, perhaps will be another pipe connecting onto the reservoir as well. There's one here, we follow that, where's it going? It's coming up here. It's coming up here.

Okay, that one actually goes off and out of the engine. So I would argue that based upon this pipe here, and also the fact that there's another pipe connecting onto the side of the engine, this is most likely for the lubrication or system. Now, I always say most likely because I never like to work with. This is definitely this or I'm certain it's this because as soon as you take this mentality, you are highly likely to take yourself down the wrong path. Always leave your options open. We're going to assume that this part here relates to lubrication or system because we have this connection here.

Nice to do some. And because there's an overall connection that comes across here, if we wanted to go a bit further, then we could look for the oil filter and see what attaches to that or look for the fuel filter and see what attaches to that. But because you know all of the systems now you can break this engine down into its parts and start to analyze what you think each component is, and what its purpose is. Now, I'm not going to go through every single component, because I think that's a really good challenge for you to do at the end of this course. There are links in the resources section of this course to all of the 3d models that you have seen throughout the course. So click on those links, load up the 3d models, learn the names of the engine components, learn the terminology, look at all of the systems and memorize each system.

And then come here, push the annotations icon And if you go around the engine, you can click on the various parts, and it will explain to you exactly what each of the parts are. And you can confirm your own suspicions. Once you're happy with that, you can take the quiz, click on the crankcase breather filter. Actually, no, it's there. And you will see your school on the right, the quiz feature is present on a lot of 3d models. So there is a lot of opportunity to consolidate what you have learned throughout this entire course.

And I really do encourage you to do that. I hope you enjoyed this course. I hope you learned a lot. I hope it was fun and not too overwhelming. Salary courses are designed to be very visual. I try to present them in such a way as to allow you to learn not just from the 3d models, but also from my own experience.

I hope that came across quite well. If you've got questions or comments and please do get in touch, we are always looking for new Ideas for courses and we are constantly improving these courses. And we can only do that if we have feedback from the students and they tell us things that worked well and things that didn't work so well. Once again, I hope you enjoyed the course this is the most important thing to me. Learning should always be fun. And I hope to see you on another course.

Thanks very much for your time.
