Welcome back, we've been looking at how you appear to your audience. And you might think it's about time we talked about you using your voice. While it is about time we looked at your voice, but that's been deliberate. How you look is important because as we've said, is the first impression your audience gets before you even open your mouth to speak. So now this video will look at your voice production, and especially how you use your voice when speaking in public. Now, right at the start, I'm going to emphasize that you need to keep practicing your vocal techniques.

There are a lot of voice exercises you can practice. They are outside the scope of this video, but you can find a lot of them including videos on the internet. Try Google or YouTube. Not surprisingly, your voice and the way you use it is vitally important. And you might fear that your voice is not good enough. The good news is there are techniques to help you it's worth sticking with Because your voice is the most powerful weapon in your armory.

Always remember that giving a speech is different to social speaking. So you will use techniques that you don't normally use in everyday life. Where does your voice come from? You might be tempted to say that it comes from your mouth, but in fact it comes from lower down. In fact, it comes from your diaphragm. If you feel your voice is straining, try lowering the pitch.

This is especially useful in women whose higher pitch comes from tighten vocal cords. The late Margaret Thatcher, UK Prime Minister took this advice and became a more effective speaker because of it. So please remember that the technique of breathing from the diaphragm is so important. I suggest that you have a go with your speech or with some other text and try it out for yourself. Keep practicing until you're happy in the next part of this video, and we'll take this further and we'll introduce you to four vital speaking techniques. And I can't stress enough how important these techniques will be to you when you speak in public.

Now, I'll introduce you to four vital speaking techniques. And I can't stress enough how important these techniques will be when you speak in public. This is probably one of the most important videos on our course. Variety is the spice of life and have a speech. You need to avoid monotony. Keep your audience interested and keep them on message.

Remember the letter T, I've got four magic P's that will help you do that. They are the key to good speaking. And you should use them all the time in your public speaking, or we're aiming to do is to make your speaking what we call voice music. Don't worry, we don't expect you to sing. So, our four P's are pronunciation, pitch, pace, pause. I hope you use them all the time in your public speaking.

Let's have a look at them. One at a time. Obviously, your audience needs to understand what you're saying. pronunciation is what gives us the final gloss in if you have a national or regional accent, not dialect, be sure to open your mouth sufficiently. typically try to have the space of one finger between your teeth when speaking, and even to things when practicing gone. Try it.

For each word fully, try and pronounce the first and last letter of each word in the sentence so that each word is distinct, and not slurred. guy will show you how it can be done. When someone feels happy and comfortable. They can express themselves more eloquently and possibly even gain themselves a wide audience, which they may otherwise have found difficult to achieve. So for our court, you don't have to stand in front of hundreds of people. If you find that hard when you can sit at home behind a screen and write and deliver your speech.

Don't kill your speech with monotony, vary the pitch, volume and tone of your voice to correspond with what you were saying. These three alone can give you the voice music that you need so much. Work out the climaxes of your speech and use your voice to rise to them in pitch, volume or tone or any combination. mark them in your speaking notes if you want to email show you it didn't badly and then Jasmine will step in and show you how it should be done. What are the possible consequences of this newfound or at least nearly perceived freedom of expression? For people who find it difficult to interact with others in person?

The Internet gives them a great way of communicating not having to feel self conscious or nervous. What are the possible consequences of this new found or at least newly perceived freedom of expression for people who find it difficult to interact with earthers in person, the internet gives them a great way of communicating I'm not having to feel self conscious or nervous. Well, I think that shows what a difference taking care of the pitch can really do to enhance your speech. pace is important. So barrier and controller. Paste adds interest as you speed up and slow down in the appropriate places.

Of course, many speakers speak too quickly and at the same pace, especially when nervous. Also, the larger the audience and the venue, the slower you need to speak. If you find that you're speaking too fast, either in practice in an actual speech or if someone tells you that you are speaking too fast, make a conscious effort to slow down. One very good way to slow down the pace of your speaking is to open your mouth wider as you speak. This automatically slows you down. And as I said earlier, helps with pronunciation.

Let's see this in action. What are the possible consequences of this new bound or at least new perceived freedom of expression. For people who find it difficult to interact with others in person. The Internet gives them a great way of communicating, not feeling self conscious or nervous. Everyone has a right to say what they think or feel. What are the possible consequences of this newfound or at least newly perceived freedom expression for people who find it difficult to interact with others in person?

The Internet gives them a great way of communicating and not had to feel self conscious or nervous. Again, I think that was really useful to see the difference. Here in this box, I've got lots of small things that will transform your speaking. Can you hear them? Could you hear that? No, neither could I.

But I'll let them free for you to use their silence. I've just released a million pauses into the wild. They're easy to use. pauses are so important. Even though you can't hear them, because you can't hear them, silence is not only golden, it's powerful. pauses allow breathing space, you and your audience.

They allow you to pause for emphasis or for effect, or give your audience a chance to react to something you said or for comic timing. And you can take a quick look at your notes at the same time. To give more of an idea of how effective pauses can be, imagine a chapter of your favorite book or newspaper without any paragraph or line breaks or pictures, just one unbroken block of text. The lack of white spaces in a book or newspaper would make the meaning very difficult to follow, if not in comprehensible, and I reckon you'd soon give up. Well, pauses are the white spaces of your speech, and they helped to make it easier to listen to. Here is Ian and Jasmine again with a few pauses.

Of course, content is monitored and can be removed. But with millions of users on sites such as Facebook and Twitter, even YouTube. Not every single photo or comment can be watched, evaluated and completely controlled. Of course, content is monitored and can be removed. But with millions of users on sites such as Facebook and Twitter, even YouTube, not every single status photo or comment can be watched, evaluated and completely controlled. See, again, what a different support makes.

So to sum up, we have four magic peas at our disposal when we speak in public pronunciation, pitch, pace and pause, and we've shown you how to use them. These four techniques should always be in your speaking armory as you try to achieve your voice music. And just like a music score, you can mark them in your notes, I strongly suggest that you try these techniques. Now, before you move on. If you're writing your own speech alongside these videos, you can use that. If not, try reading from a book or a newspaper.

If you can record yourself and then I suggest you do it a few times and play it back to yourself, or you could practice to a partner or friends. Now we know these important voice techniques. We'll move on in the next video to look at how you use notes effectively when you're actually delivering a speech. Siebel then
