Currently, iOS 12 and iOS 14 continue receiving security updates, which means that all iPhones from 5S are protected. Since the 5S was released in September 2013, it means that Apple is offering more than 7 years of security updates This is huge in the industry.
With Android, it really depends on which manufacturer you got your smartphone:

Samsung is offering 4 years of security updates for all smartphones released since 2019
Older Samsung smartphones, as well as Google Pixels phones,  are currently covered for 3 years of operating system updates.
All the others are usually offering only 2 years of coverage

For security updates, this means that, at the time of recording, all devices running Android 8 Oreo or newer could still be protected. Unfortunately, it's up to the smartphone...
