In this video, we'll explore what an attacker could do without touching your smartphone and potentially without being noticed.

There are 3 main wireless radios in a smartphone

NFC which stands for Near Field Communication)
Bluetooth
Wi-Fi

The difference between those is the distance at which an attack can be launched.

With NFC, we're talking about a few centimeters or inches
While with Bluetooth and wi-fi it depends whether it's indoors or outdoors

Indoors, we're talking about a 10 to 20 meters range so 33 to 66 feet
Outdoors, the range is bigger: from 40 to 400 meters 100 to 1000 feet depending on the physical obstacle along the way


In all three cases, the idea is to leverage a known, yet unpatched vulnerability or a zero-day flaw, something that the device manufacturer or operating system vendor does not yet know about.
The goal is to gain a foot-hole into the smartphone and then exploit other vulnerabilities or leverage a rogue app installed on the device.
