Well, In 2017, Researchers from two universities in the UK and 1 in China have created an algorithm that can predict with about 95% accuracy the pattern of a locked screen within 5 attempts.
They used footage from security cameras located that filmed people sometimes far away, who unlocked their screen with a pattern. Now, if you think about it, there is a limited number of ways to move your finger around. For instance, you can't go up if you start from the top row and you can't go down if you start from the bottom one.
