How to think like a chef. Hi there Scott Merrick here and welcome to this video. In this video I want to quickly show you how to easily change the way you think about cooking food forever. By the end of this short video, you will think about cooking in a completely different way. And we'll discover how easy cooking really is just like a professional chef. So how to think like a chef.

Chefs don't think of cooking like most home cooks do. They understand that cooking isn't about slavish Lee following a recipe. It's about understanding some basic cookery techniques you can apply to different ingredients. Let me explain a bit further. Chefs understand that cooking isn't about following a recipe. It's about understanding how to use different methods of cookery to cook food and how to apply them to different ingredients.

If you apply heat to food, you cook it and there are only so many ways To cook food, you can grill it, steam it, poach it, boil it, roast it, bake it, fry it, braise it, stew it or microwave it. These are the most common methods of cookery you use to cook food. So if you know how to grill chicken, and most of us do if you've ever used a barbecue and ever and you've cooked food and a barbecue, the method of cookery that you use to cook food in a barbecue is grilling. So if you know how to grill chicken, you can also grill fish, steak, vegetables, seafood, etc. The method of cookery stays the same grilling. All we do is we just change the ingredient we're actually going to cook, get the idea.

So here's an example. We've got here four beautiful pieces of salmon. So instead of thinking you know, okay, I have to go and find a recipe to cook this salmon. thing like a professional shifters. So, what we want to do is let's choose a method of cookery we're going to use to cook our salmon. So we can grill it, grill them, steam them, poach them, boil them, roast them, bake them, fry them, raise them, just do them, all microwave them.

What we're going to choose is the method of cookery of grilling. So we're going to grill this salmon. We then need to choose some vegetables to go with your salmon. So let's get some asparagus asparagus is a beautiful vegetable, and we need to choose again what method of cookery we're going to use to cook the asparagus. So are we going to grill it, steam it, or jet? boil it, roast it, bake it, fry it, raise it, stew it, or microwave it.

So let's theme asparagus. asparagus steamed is really, really lovely. Way to cook it. We then add a quick sauce. And here's a quick recipe shortcut sauce goes really really well with fish. You take half a cup of short bought mayonnaise, and you add half a cup of cream.

You heat it up over a medium heat on your stove in a small saucepan. You add some chop bill or chop parsley or maybe some chop chives that can be fresh or dried. Bring it to the boil, turn off the heat, give it a stir. Add some salt and pepper to taste. And then we combine it with our grilled salmon and our steamed asparagus. And we get this grilled salmon steamed asparagus and dill sauce.

Doesn't that look absolutely beautiful. How happy would you be if you sat down for dinner one evening, and that dish was put in front of you? Yeah, I'd be very, very Happy as well. So remember, once you understand how to use the different methods of cookery, you can apply them to any ingredient you want. No recipe required. And this is how professional chefs think about cooking.
