There are four types of bones



Long Bone - Bones that are longer than they are wide are called long bones. They consist of a long shaft with two bulky ends or extremities. They are primarily compact bones but may have a large amount of spongy bone at the ends or extremities. The shaft or diaphysis is the hard compact portion, the epiphysis or end is sponge-like and covered by a shell or harder bone and the metaphysis or growing epiphysis does not fuse until growth has ceased. Long bones include bones of the thigh, leg, arm, and forearm. The primary function of Long bones is to give support.
