Hello, you healthy heart people. So excited you're here, because we're talking about heart health. And we're going to talk about prevention of heart disease today, as well as what you can do, you know, in the midst of it, but what what I want to start out by saying is, if you are having any type of heart pain right now, right, let's say you're having constriction in your chest or you're having pain up in your jaw coming into your heart of breathing, right, you don't don't come to the cooking class to learn the herbal remedies. That's where modern medicine excels. You just pick up you go right to the hospital. They're wonderful at that acute conditions, right?

Boom, heart attacks happening. Get in there, open it up, clean out the arteries. What we're going to be doing today is is something a little bit different. We're not going to open you up, but we're gonna feed you good quality food that's going to get the circulation moving. It's going to get the heart pumping. Well.

This is more preventative. This is like what this is what preventative medicine really is. That's what we're going to be talking about using food as medicine and herbs as medicine, and of course, nourishing the heart today. For those of you that are meeting me for the first time, my name is Andrea Beeman. I'm a holistic health coach and a chef, a natural food chef and an educator. I love teaching people about health, it really fills up my heart, which is you can't get that in a super stew, although you could really put some love in your food, which is we'll talk about that as well.

I have a variety of books on natural healing, cooking, diet and lifestyle, and a variety of online health programs that reach people around the world. And for those of you that want more information about my books, or my classes or anything like that, you can go to Andrew Beeman calm but for right now, for the next hour. You're here with me, I have you trapped in my kitchen for the next hour and we're going to be talking about heart health. I'm going to talk about the western idea of the heart and the Eastern and energetic idea of the heart. So in western medicine, the heart is a pump, and it has a function and it's pumping out the blood and it's taking the non oxygenated blood and it's going into the other side, left ventricle, right? It's getting into the oxygen and then putting oxygen rich blood into the circulation, and that's feeding all your cells, right.

So your heart has a mechanical process. But it's not a solo operator, which is you have to look at many facets of the human body when you're dealing with the heart. So in Eastern medicine, and Ancient Medicine, the heart of course, is how it has all these functions doing all this great stuff, but the liver is feeding the heart, right and the kidney is creating the fluid or the blood flow. The heart and the stomach and the spleen, right. This is getting the nutrition which is feeding the kidney, which is feeding the liver, which is feeding the heart, right. So you have your whole entire body, the oxygen right from the lungs, of course, feeding the heart.

So we have to look at the body as a whole system. And when you want to function well, you have to address those systems. You can't just focus on the heart. Oh, you know, I see it all the time. Oh, use this specific one thing because this is good for heart health? Well, no, there has to be in combination with other things, right?

Reducing inflammation, right? That's a biggie, because inflammation is a direct contributor to heart disease. But how do you reduce the inflammation, you can't just take tons of tumeric. I can just take a you know, capsules of tumeric all day long. First of all, it's not very delicious if it's not within your food, and it can be toxic to the liver in large doses. So we have to look at the body as this system that is all working together.

And that's why we're starting Food because food is creating the cheese, the energy that is going to feed the kidneys feed the liver, feed the heart, it's going to feed your systems and help them function properly. Okay, so one of the things that I want to talk about with heart disease is there's two different kinds of in well in energetic medicine, right, we're looking at the heart from two ways. One is excess heat in the heart, and one is a deficient blood in the heart. So when there's excess heat, you'll have someone that has a bright red faci always agitated, right? They need lots of cooling foods, right? This the person that has that agitated hot heart condition, or the aggravated liver heat that is rising and affecting the heart.

This person needs a ton of vegetables, vegetables, salads, fruits, you name it. All right, cool, this person down the person that's in a deficiency Actually, when they have deficient blood, they need a little bit more, they need more mineral rich foods, they need a little more fats. So we're going to talk about fats and all that stuff as we go through as we go through the recipes. But the first recipe that I want to start with has elements of both cooling and heating, right. So because this is for prevention, this is for people that just want to prevent heart disease in the long term. They're not too hot, not too cold, but if they are, they could always adjust the recipe.

So let me show you this first recipe. We're going to do a cabbage and Apple salad with a honey ginger dressing. So I'm using Chinese cabbage and you could use any cabbage that you want. I'm using an apple, which is a member of the rose family and Rose traditionally is a heart medicine. I'm using parsley, extra virgin olive oil, apple cider vinegar, ginger juice, raw honey, sea salt, and crushed armies. So let me get my recipe here and bring you guys back So let's run through this.

So here we have cabbage. Right cabbage is fantastic. It's great for cooling, but it also has some warming properties because of the sulfur compounds. So one of the other things that cabbage has is it helps with phase two liver detox of your your metabolism and your food and all that stuff, right. So if you're not processing and digesting your food properly, or if your liver is congested, this is going to cause heart heat. So it happens all the time somebody eats too much.

Right? Then you have a ton of hydrochloric acid that comes to the stomach, what's going to happen you have a burning sensation that comes up especially if the valves a weak burning sensation that comes up into the heart. If somebody has heart, I mean liver heat rising. This is one of the worst offenders in Chinese medicine for destroying the heart. So we eat rising damages the heart more than like your heart is not like a soul. It's not really a solo operator.

It's sitting there minding its own And you have this liver, angry liver energy this heat rising from maybe it's toxic maybe there's also emotions rising right? And that's going to create this keep it's going to damage the valves. Right? So we're looking a lot at the liver and of course with a lot of diseases, you're looking at the liver, liver, it's got a big job. It's like it's, they call the liver the commander in Chinese medicine, right commanding for your organs. So we want to make sure that we're nourishing that liver so that we can cool down any liver heat, which is causing anxiousness because literally heat when it rises, it'll give palpitations, it'll give anxiousness, it'll give agitation.

It'll give a really fiery someone's quick to snap. right um, somebody. Little tiny thing happens boom, they jump right down your throat, right, that's showing excess liver heat. So we want to try and cool that and the best way to do it is with salads. So here we are in the middle of winter. I'm on the northeastern United I'm in New York, and we still have cabbages available.

So I'm using I'm making a nice cabbage salad. And I'm using Chinese cabbage. I'm actually going to take this top leaf off. And I'm also going to use just some regular purple cabbage. So I want to slice this thing. I love cabbage.

You know, I don't know if it's my German heritage. I don't know. But I, I love cabbage. It's so sweet. It's one of those sweet vegetables. And one of the things that is one of the great contributors to heart disease is too much sweet in the form of processed foods.

Too many carbohydrates. Oh, I just lost my little whisk. Find the garbage, too many carbohydrates, too many sweets, pastries, but when we're talking about too many Sweet we're not talking about too much cabbage you know you don't have people that are saying oh, I'm eating way too much cabbage there's too much sweet flavor in my life. I'm having so much cabbage right that's that's not a reality. So we want some sweet flavor so that we are nourishing that sweet which is supporting the stomach spleen in the pancreas right and I'm pointing here because your stomach is not in the center, it's actually off to the left. Right so it's it's supporting the sweet flavor to help build your cheat.

Right so we have acquired TCE which is what we're born with which is energy with born with and then we have our CI that we have on this planet, right we have I'm sorry, we have you know the CI that you're born with is not called acquire ci acquire cheese here on the planet, whatever you acquire while you're here. That's congenital, cheap and gentle ci is what you're born with. That's the energy that comes to your parents. And then you have acquired CIH which comes from your food and your lifestyle. So When you are craving sweets, that means that you're lacking energy, right? Maybe your congenital CIH is has been drained, and you're not eating the right foods to support the building of the energy while you're here on the planet.

So, cabbage has that sweet flavor that helps to nourish that chief. So I have some purple cabbage here. Oh, Donna. Mary says with this recipe still work if I will. The cabbages. Yeah, totally.

You can milk the cabbages for sure. Mary. Um, you know, because not everybody can do raw cabbage. It can be hard on the end cause a lot of gas for some people. But this is going to be marinated, it's not actually going to be raw. It's going to be marinated.

So that'll help to cut some of the hard to digest properties of the cabbage. I'm also putting in an apple so you remember I said earlier? apples are part of the rose family. So rose traditionally is a hard strengthener it helps to tone The the cardiovascular and helps to tone the cells. It's also great because it's rich in fiber so it helps to clear the digestive system. So for the people that are having trouble digesting, you know have an apple as a snack and all that fiber will help to move things through the digestive system, reduce some of that, that's in the digestive system.

So I'm just going to use a little bit of apple in this salad as well. And you can use a green apple red apple you know, Granny Smith, so some of my favorites. This one is a Fuji and Fuji is a really sweet so I'm going to put the apple in and we're going to talk about other foods from the rose family as we get into the herbs because there's one particular berry part of the rose family that is amazing for strengthening the heart. You know all berries are great Because they you know they have that a stringent quality so they help to tone yourselves and tone your cardiovascular. What else do we have in our salad we have parsley. Guess what, what organ system?

This is great for Parsees? Anybody know I'll just start chopping it while you're thinking while you have your, your caps your thinking caps on. Right, it's a natural diuretic that'll give you a hint. natural diuretic, also rich in a lot of minerals. As well as potassium. We're going to put parsley in as anybody got it.

Nobody's got it yet. Nobody knows what that's good for. It's a natural diuretic. It's good for the kidneys. Right? So it's good for the kidneys.

And it's also good for your whole body but it has an affinity parsley has an affinity for the kidneys. So if somebody has high blood pressure, they should be having because you know blood pressure is too much fluid. You're an egg could also be constructed. of the of the, you know, the cells and the arteries and the capillaries and all that stuff. But if you have too much fluid, right, your pressures going to go up so parsley natural diuretic without being a water pill, right? Is um, is perfect parsley tea if you have high blood pressure, my gosh just take parsley and make tea out of it.

I know that there's in Europe, there's a tradition with parsley wine, and that helps to bring down the blood pressure as well. Okay, so we have our cabbage, apple, some parsley, and we're going to put in ginger juice. So for those of you that don't know how to make ginger juice right on, let me move this so you guys can see. I'm just taking a grater and some ginger and I'm gonna grade it. Now ginger is wonderful, right? Of course it's anti inflammatory and all that stuff.

But for those people that have trouble digesting raw foods Ginger is great because it brings circulation and heat and warmth into the gut. So, like you know for if you have trouble digesting raw foods you're after you have a smoothie after you have a salad, you get a bloat that happens you'll have a distension that that happens and and to help move that or to bring the heat to move that through because you do need heat. Remember I was talking about the hot heart condition. You don't want your too much heat here. You want your heat here, right, you want your digestive fire here so that your heart doesn't burn out of control. So I just created up my ginger and to make ginger juice you just squeeze right so this is going to bring circulation and heat to the digestive system help you process the salad better.

And I like I said I'm going to marinate To sell so I'm also using about a quarter cup of olive oil. Okay. I'm also gonna put some apple cider vinegar in here about you know, maybe two tablespoons Wow, that's a lot. Let's see. Oh, one tablespoon was the recipe guys, what was the recipe so I actually have to increase the amount of olive oil so this is gonna go on to the salad it's gonna marinate while we make our fish to go fish fish coming up. Let's see.

Uh oh, yes, please go What did you say about buying ginger? Oh, okay, Mary yeah about oh, that's where I got cut out buying ginger organic. Okay. So, um, in general, please buy everything that you can clean and organic because remember I was talking about liver sheets. So, and liver congestion will contribute to heart disease quicker than you could imagine. So if you're overloading your body with toxic residues and pesticides, you're putting a tremendous amount of stress on the liver.

So unfortunately, in the society that we've created in the earth that we've created today, we have a lot of toxins in our environment. So we're already putting a lot of stress on our liver. And then if we eat food that is covered in toxins, we're putting a lot of stress as well as the metabolic stress on the liver. So if you can try and buy everything organic, if you can, make sure that you have that there's a list called the Dirty Dozen. Make sure that you're not eating non organic strawberries and peaches and apples because those are some of the dirtiest foods, I think peppers on that list as well. So just try and get as much as you can organic, and if you can't afford it, then peel it although it's still on the inside.

You know, for the ginger, it's still on the inside. Okay. You know, like people always say what if I peel the vegetable, what if I peel it, but unfortunately, because of the way that the pesticides work, they're sprayed on. And then they go into the soil and then the plant uses the soil is food. So the pesticide residue can be just as high on the inside as it is on the outside, you got to be careful with that kind of stuff. Okay, so I have here our salad, which I'm going to put on the side and move to our next dish.

Right so this is going to marinate, which is gonna get both the ginger and the apple cider vinegar gonna help to break down the cellulose fiber, as well as the salt that I put in here. So this is a raw dish, and it's very cooling. But for those people that can't digest raw food by itself, the salad dressing will also help like the more that this sits, the more it's going to start to break down. So somebody had said, What if I wilted? You could totally wilted if you have trouble digesting cabbages. Certainly cook them steam them, make a different type of salad, make a you know, cook cabbage dish.

So I'm going to put this off to the side. Okay, our next dish is a fish dish and I chose fish because fish is generally cooling, right? It's nourishing, it's going to nourish the cheese, but it's generally cooling. Whereas if someone's in a deficient cheese state, or deficient Shen, which we'll talk about as we get to the herbs, if they're in a deficient state, and they're cold all the time, fish may not be the right may not be the right food for them. They may need something else eggs or chicken and you may think, oh, eggs is heart disease. Yeah, somebody could have a deficient Shen meaning deficient blood, blood is not the blood is not strong, and then you want to build, right that's where you want to build.

So that's where animal proteins and animal fats and all that stuff come in really, really handy because they're great builders. And I got a good good article from Mom, Time Magazine, I'm going to read to you guys. But so you have to look at the person. Okay, what are they? Are they deficient? Are they pulled?

Or are they warm? Right? Are they hot? Are they agitated, and then you adjust the diet so that they become more comfortable, right? Because you want to be comfortable while you're here on the planet. You don't want to be aggravated all the time.

You want to be able to be here and be well and feel good and all that stuff. Okay. Clean conventional, oh, is there a best way to clean conventional produce? Yeah, unfortunately, like I said, because of how that how the produce is sprayed, right, you having the pesticides on the soil itself. So because it's on the soil itself, that's what the plant is going to use it, you know, it's watered and all that stuff. It's going to use that and you're going to have high concentrations on the inside of the plant as well.

So if you can't buy clean, if you can't afford it, join a CSA. It's one of my favorite things in the whole world. Community Supported Agriculture. So let me show you the next To dish the next dish is a post halibut with aromatic herbs and mirin. So I'm using mirin which is a rice wine. For those of you that don't want rice wine you can omit it.

I'm using water a shallot Bailey's time Rosemary peppercorn. See salt halibut, unsalted grass fed butter, lemon juice and of garlic clove. So let me come on back here. How it is an expensive fish and you do not have to use halibut. I chose it because it holds up really well. holds up really well to approaching right but you can use cod scribe flounder fluke you know all of those would be great but halibut is just it's a strong hearty fish.

Right? So this recipes coach so what I don't want to do with heart disease is I don't want to cry. So, when when you're frying, you're creating more inflammation. Even if you're crying in good quality oil, right, you're gonna create more inflammation. So for somebody who's actively has heart disease, you don't want to have fried food. You want to have poached, steamed, boiled, boiled, but not necessarily fried.

So we're poaching this fish. It's a much gentler way to cook the fish and to break down the protein so you can absorb them. And it's very, very quick. So let me just grab some water. And you can use veggie stock or fish stock. So I'm taking some water and in that water, I'm going to put both rosemary and time and I'm using these specifically because they're delicious.

But Rosemary is in the German pharmacopoeia as one of those herbs that are essential for like heart health. Right? It's actually a it's a Roomba fashions and it moves blood. It helps To bring blood to the surface and move blood. It's fantastic. It's really wonderful.

So what I'm going to do here is I'm going to bring our water and our mirin, right. This is rice wine. And I'm going to use two tablespoons of Marin. And like I said, you could omit this. It just gives you the nice flavor. You could use regular white wine if you have it.

So this is Marin, it's a, it's a rice wine. You could use regular white wine. I wouldn't use red wine because then you're going to call your fish. I'm also using a shallot right so everybody knows what his challenge is. Right? It's red onion.

And and I'm just going to cut it into small pieces. And what this is going to do is it's going to flavor this broth that we're going to be cooking our fishing. right because Can you imagine if you just cooked fish in water without anything it It just feels like a almost like a little rubbery piece of fish. I'm gonna say this and put into my stock bag. Katie says are any nuts better or worse for the body we could talk about that actually a little bit later when I put the nuts on, but it depends on on your system. I'm going to throw a time in here.

I'm also going to put some chopped up rosemary, right chopped up rosemary, that's going to go in. I'm going to put a Bailey's some peppercorns, maybe teaspoon of peppercorns not even, you know little quarter teaspoon of peppercorns and and then we're going to drop in our halibut. So I cut these into small little pieces. We could put two in there hoping to win and this is going to cook pretty quickly. Actually. And I'm going to lower it to probably a, just a simmer almost.

It's going to cook in about five minutes. Actually, I'll put the third piece in as well. Okay, so while that's cooking, while that's cooking, I want to talk to you about bacterial infections directly linked with heart disease and heart attack, right. So all of your coronary herbs are antimicrobial. So use them and use them a lot. Right?

So here in here we have this but I'm also going to be using them in you could make a team you can make a tea out of rosemary, you could make a tea out of time. If you have a bacterial infection, that's a probably a good idea. Right to start having that stuff. So what I'm also going to do is we're going to finish this with butter and garlic. People are thinking my gosh, you Going to use butter. She's going to use butter in a heart health cooking class, I'm just slicing up a little piece of garlic.

Garlic is a classic. It's a classic cardiovascular supportive food. But like I said before, if somebody is too hot and too aggravated, then you want to pair your garlic with something cooling like a piece of fish. Right? So if somebody has a here's a good example, if somebody has an aggravated heart condition, right, they're showing signs those signs of heart disease. If they sit down to a big meatball, you know, meatball parmesan with tons of garlic, it's gonna aggravate their heart even more because you're putting a ton of heat garlic is one of those hot vegetables, right?

It's um, it's a bowl but it's actually got a lot of heat like the ginger has a lot of heat as well. But we paired the ginger with a salad a very coolly, salad. So for summarization, Hot flaring heart condition. You don't want to have like lamb with rosemary, because lamb is very warming. I mean, I'm sorry, lamb with garlic. You know, it's a great pairing, but not for that person.

Lamb with garlic, would it be better for the person who was cold and deficient? Where fish with garlic would be better for the person who is hot. Right? So do you understand fish is cooling and lamb is warming? So let me grab this plate. So I'm also using butter and I want to read you guys something.

Let's see. I know I have it here. Ah, from Time Magazine. So while this is cooking this as a couple minutes Oh, oh, it's ever said I know what I'm having for dinner. Yeah, you're gonna love this. It's so delicious.

I made it for my husband the other night. Fantastic. This is Time magazine in June 2016. So just recently Lee came out he said it looks like butter may in fact be back. A new study analyzed nine papers that included more than 600,000 people and concluded that consuming fodder is not linked to higher risk for heart disease and may be protective against type two diabetes. This goes against the long standing advice to avoid butter because it contains saturated fat as time reported in their in their 2014 cover story, right, do you remember that one from two years ago a few years ago that big lump of butter on the front cover of Time and time reported in 2014 cover story that had become the most vilified nutrient in the American diet.

Despite scientific evidence showing it didn't harm health or cause weight gain. Saturated fat was content was considered dietary public health enemy number one says Dr. David Ludwig professor of nutrition at Harvard School of Public Health for the last few years, there's been research and commentary suggesting that this focus is misguided in Indeed, research is mounting that saturated fat is better for you than processed carbohydrates like sugar and white bread, which have been linked to diabetes, obesity and heart disease many times over. In a separate study, the journal circulation it's a journal called circulation, analyze the blood of 3300 adults and found that people at higher levels of free buy products from full fat dairy had 46% lower risk of diabetes than people with lower levels. Right. It also shows the other studies that have also shown that full fat products like dairy can be useful in weight maintenance and other health factors.

So that's something to consider we've taken the fat out, especially butter which was vilified taking it out and weight has quite we've exploded where diabetes, heart disease, everything has gone through the roof. And so we need to put the fat back in because the fact cch you. So this is a grass fed butter and I'm only going to use one tablespoon Actually, what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna pull my fish out and put it into this little bowl here. Okay, guess 7648 said Do we assume those with high blood pressure or hot? Generally, I mean, you can make that assumption. But generally, I mean, you could have high blood pressure and not be hot.

But generally it's really an overheated condition. Like, a lot of times with people with low blood pressure, you'll see that they're always cold, right? They're always cold. They're even dizzy when they stand, right? So that's low blood pressure. So I'm gonna take these out.

When you're poaching fish, it's really quick. I mean, literally, you're talking about under five minutes depending on how thick the fishes like if you're using flounder Which is much better than this. It's going to poach for just two minutes. So I'm going to take just, I'll take all three pieces and put them off to the side. And this smells so good. It's unbelievable.

So let's take all three pieces and put it in here. And then what I'm going to do is I am going to take out our herbs and our onions because I just use them for flavor to flavor this broth. I'm going to take out all this stuff. You can certainly keep it right. It's delicious. And you can certainly keep it before presentation.

Right? We just want to have that fish floating in this liquid. So let me grab this. Just take out the peppercorns because nobody likes to bite on a whole peppercorn. That's really spicy. Okay, so in here I'm going to put my two tablespoons of butter.

And I'm going to put my garlic because raw garlic can be very hard to take. Now I was talking about a hot condition with garlic, there is one time that I would recommend garlic with a hot condition. And that is if you have the beginning stages of a cold or a flu, right and your body is naturally heating up, it's naturally getting hot, what you want to do is you actually want to put more heat into the system so that you kill the bacteria kill the virus, you kill the pathogen that's in there, and then get under the covers and sweat, sweat, sweat, sweat, sweat, so that's when I would recommend garlic for a hot hot condition. But also we're pairing our garlic with cooling fish, so this makes it a little more balanced. So we're just going to cook this for about a minute and then pour that on top of our fish and that's done and we're going to move on to our herbal recipes.

Let me see. PJ says I just recently I lost 12 pounds when I put butter back into my diet. Oh my god, you're perfect. Yes. It's so funny I have a friend who um, whenever we go out to brunch or lunch or anything like that, I'll have a piece of bread with butter like butter, you know, like a lot of butter, sourdough bread and all that stuff. And I still just eat the bread and she's overweight and she just keeps eating the bread.

She can't stop but because I have the bread with the butter on it, I'm satisfied. So I don't need a whole loaf. I really don't need a whole level. Okay, so what I'm going to do is find my ladle and we're going to ladle this right on top of our fish. And that broth is going to be so delicious. You're going to love this.

You're totally going to love this. Oh, I also I forgot to put it in the lemon Sorry guys. Sorry guys, I forgot to put in the level you could put it in afterwards to put in right now. So what I want to do is I have this really gigantic lemon. I'm taking a little lemon zester and I'm just gonna put that in the hot liquid real quick. And that'll go on top.

And I'm also going to use a little bit of lemon juice. Maybe like a tablespoon of lemon juice in there with the fish. And actually, it should have been cooked in with the butter, but I forgot. Oh my gosh, I forgot. But since you have the recipe you won't forget. Actually, I'll put it in here.

Give it a little quick code. And then we'll put it right on top and I'll show you what that looks like. Right so this is pretty hot. So we're gonna put these little things right on top and I'll show you what that looks like. Okay, so this is our finished coach fish. This is coach halibut.

It's got the lemon in the mirror and a little bit of water. And like PJ said, right, she lost 12 pounds by adding fat back in because fat satisfies you on a really deep level. It also helps to bring nutrients deeper into the body. So that is done. We're going to move let me turn this on. So you have fish, and you have this lovely little salad on the side.

And this is really nice dinner for somebody that has hard stuff going on. Either if they're cold or if they're hot, this would be good for both because we have some balancing elements. But also remember that this is about prevention. Right? This is about prevention because what you want to do is you want to prevent disease from happening. You don't want to have to suffer with a condition.

So we have this as a nice little dinner. Right? Okay, so Oh, why could the lemon isn't it more nutrient dense in the raw straight state? Yeah, it has more of vitamin C. And you could certainly just put it on. It's just nice to mix it in because it helps to cut the butter a little bit and helps to to get this so it really stays like this and it doesn't separate, right because once you put the lemon on, it's going to start to separate and that acid is going to start to push the little butter on away and it'll look a little bit cloudy so it's just a presentation you could show me put the book The lemon on at the end. Oh Robin says what's his thing?

They have the the pipes on it's it's 60 degrees in New York and they have the pipes on and why? Um oh where can I get a ginger grater Suzanne says you can get a ginger grater anywhere you can use any type of grater so that one. Let's see, you could use a you could use a box grater for ginger. You just use this side. Right? Use that side.

So that grader is specific for June. Right? It's one of those. It's just a it's a handy dandy, but you don't need it. You could just use the box grader. Okay.

Okay, so let's go to the next dish. Let me put these off to the front and Go to the next dish because we got to get to our herbs, it's 120 you guys see how quick and easy it was to make that fish? I mean really easy. That's going to be my lunch. And for those of you that want to come over, I have an extra piece of fish here. Oh, here's a arm is going to go on top and somebody had asked me earlier, what nut is better for the body?

It depends on your body. Some people can't process tree nuts, they have allergic reaction. And some people don't like nuts, right. So in that case, if they don't like nuts, I would use seeds, I would use sunflower seeds. And that's just to give it a little different crunch, but also you have a nice essential fatty acids in those almonds. I lightly toasted them.

You can you can also blanch them. That's great. Because of course you don't want to burn them again because you don't want to contribute to the inflammation inside the body. Any high level comments you can share for folks with The generic SMP API Oh yeah. I don't know what a PPO SMP ETF is, so I, I can't really share. But if you tell me what it is I can figure it out from an energetic or a holistic perspective, like what?

You know, I could try and figure that out for you. But let's look at the next dish, which is a great team. So let me show you what this looks like. This is a heart strengthening. See, I'm using two tablespoons of popcorn berries, a tablespoon and nettles, a tablespoon of violets, tablespoon of red clover, and a tablespoon of motherboard. So I want you to take a look at the violet leaf.

And there's something called the doctrine of signatures. So that violet leaf actually looks like a heart. And guess what violet contains in small doses that contain salicylic acid which is the same acid in aspirin, and it helps to thin the blood. Right? So a lot of times people will be wrecked, they recommend that they have a baby aspirin, right? If they have trouble with their blood, like fix coagulated blood, right?

So they take a baby aspirin to finish. So we have violet which naturally has that Viola odor, Radha. And it's also very relaxing, right? extremely safe. And then of course on the right we have Hawthorn berries and motherboard. So let me tell you about Hawthorn berries because it's a classic.

Okay, Hawthorne Berry, so this book for those of you that like herbs and food, right, this is medical herbal ism by David Hoffman. It's like the herbal science Bible. So let's talk about Hawthorne, Hawthorne berries, I'm using two tablespoons of Hawthorn berries and Hawthorn berries are a member of the rose family. They are rich and flavonoids, right? So they look like lids. These are little dried berries.

And in the picture that's when they look like fresh, right? So it's a little red berry. And if you notice the little red berry, let me take you back there you notice it actually looks like an apple, right? A little baby apple. You see that? So let me come on back here.

So I'm using Hawthorn berries. I'm using motherboard. For those of you that have heart palpitations, motherboard is the go to heart palpitations relaxer. It's also very bitter. So if you don't have heart palpitations, and you don't want a theater type t then just take the motherboard out. But it's also a classic heart herbs.

Right. Here's the violet and I get my herbs down at flowerpower but I also get the ones that I can't get it flowerpower I get them at Star Wars mechanicals. I'm also using nettles because I want to Make sure that great, I want to make sure that the blood is moving, I want to make sure, but I want to make sure that I can also build blood. Right. So nettles is a traditional blood builder and his kidney supporter, right. So this nourishes the kidneys and the adrenals.

So again, we're looking at the whole system. So we have a T here, that's going to affect the whole system, as well as I have red clover, which is great for the lymphatic system. So you know that in order to have a healthy circulatory system you live has to be moving well, right. And a lot of times it gets congested with stuff. Let's just call it stuff for now. But it's like congested with you know, the residue of the cells, the bacteria, you know, all of that stuff, will congest the lymphatic system, and your lymphatic system moves in one direction, guess where to your heart.

So you want to make sure that that system is flowing and moving. So here we have some red clover. So this team and I'll take you back here Hawthorne Berry and nettles can be drying but violet and clover are moistening. Right. So this tea again is one of those. It's bounced.

We have some balance here. So I'm just taking some water and I brought it to a boil and I'm going to let this seat just for how long? Anybody want to guess how long I'm gonna let this seat because it has Hawthorn berries in it. I'm probably gonna let it sleep overnight. You could sleep it for I mean, you could sleep it for 25 or 30 minutes and still get benefit out of it. But when you sleep it overnight between the nettles and the Hawthorne bear you're getting a deep nutrition.

So you're getting deep nutrition so you just let that sit on the counter. overnight in the morning heated up if you want you could have a cool if you have a hot condition I would have a cooler and if you have a cold condition I would have it warm. So let me continue. Hawthorne berry is a tonic in the true sense. It's a specific remedy for most cardiovascular disease. Hawthorns primary attribute appears to be its ability to improve coronary circulation it dilates the coronary arteries, leaving cardiac hypoxemia hypoxemia.

Consequently, it reduces the likelihood of angina attacks and relieve symptoms of angina when they occur. The herb directly affects the cells of the cardiac muscle enhancing both activity and nutrition. Right. It contracts it helps the cardiac muscle contract. Okay, yeah. So I mean, you can pick up this book, it's gigantic.

It's a great one, or you can pick up a little therapeutic herb manual. Right little one pocket. Good to see some stuff. Okay, so Oh, Phil asks, does the tea produce heat or cooling? Oh, both. Phil that's a great question.

So nettle is cooling motherboard is cooling. The Hawthorne berry is is kind of neutral. It's kind of neutral, although it's a little cooling, and then the violet is moistening, and the red clover is moistening. So in general, the tea is more on the cooling side. So if you are cold, you want to heat it up meaning have it as a hot tea instead of a cool tea. Or you can even put a little bit of ginger in there, right remember the trick with the salad.

If you put ginger in the salad, it helps to digest because it's bringing heat into the into the digestive system. Ginger is so spicy, I mean, you take a piece of it and you you're going to feel that heat here. So if you are cold, then put a little ginger in here. That would totally be awesome. And that would make this more balanced because it is on the cooling side. It is on the cooling.

Great question. Does the average person like the taste of this tea? The average person would like the taste of this tea without the motherboard without the motherboard it's wheat and and it has a nice silky texture because red clover and, and violet opposed to sweet and moistening. So as a silky texture on the tongue. The motherboard will make it better. Right.

The other herbs are really nutritive, right, a really sweet moistening, except for the little nettles. nettles is not moistening, it's drying, but it's so nutritive. And so if you don't like better things, then take the motherboard out and if you're not having heart palpitations, take the motherboard out although motherboard I think it's great for the liver. It's one of my favorite liver herbs and you know, that's how it helps stop the palpitations. right because it's really supporting the liver. It's a Leonora cardiac CA is its name that's a Latin name, so you know that it's good for the heart.

So most people you know always say you know how is this going to taste is it going to be delicious and you They drinking coffee on a daily basis and the coffee is you know feta is hack. Right so what are you putting coffee they put, they put sugar, they put milk they put all these creamers all this other stuff. Okay, so let me get to the last thing that I have for you because we're at 1230. So reishi mushroom, and if you look at it again doctrine of signatures, this is a mushroom that is so heart supportive. It's it's an adaptogen it's an immunomodulator. It's Claudio tonic, it's hip, paddle protective.

That means it's good for the liver. It's anti microbial. It's a nerve. It helps calm your nerves. It's anti inflammatory. Traditionally, it nourishes the heart and calms the Shen and I'll tell you what the shin is, as soon as we come on back.

It used to calm stress, reduce nervousness and promote restful sleep. traditionally used as a blood tonic to promote longevity and vitality and highly beneficial to the heart. reishi mushroom has been used for thousands of years. This is not a new thing. It's only new here in the West, but in the east. They've been using For a long time, so I pulled this from sacred Lotus website, which is you could find out you know, it's easy to understand Chinese medicine right?

It's called sacred Lotus calm. So when Reishi is said to calm the Shen, and let me get my Reishi because you can't eat Reishi right, you saw that that hard. Let me show you again. It's very hard and fibrous and Woody and it grows on trees. So it has it's not like a regular mushroom, you cannot you cannot eat it in a salad or put it into a surprise. It has to be accosted for a long period of time over three hours actually.

Or you can buy it in tincture form. Right? So this is just a tincture. You can get any Whole Foods. It's a Reishi tincture. And then you can buy it in pill form if you don't like alcohol, right because the tincture has alcohol in it.

So you could buy it in pill form Reishi and this one says right on the bottle supports a healthy heart. So what it does It calms the Shang, right, it nourishes. So how does it do that? So what is the Shang in Chinese medicine? The Shen lives in the heart, that's your spirit, right? It's the spirit and the mind of the Spirit, right?

That's the Shen. And it retires in the heart to sleep during the night. Right? So if you can't sleep at night, generally, something's bothering your heart, spirit, meaning, and we've all had this happen, you have an emotional trauma that happens, you're not falling asleep, either that or you're gonna just cry your eyeballs out and then be exhausted to sleep. If you're emotionally unsettled. If your spirit is unsettled, you wake up in the middle of night with that thought, going around and around and around in the mind, right, you wake up at two o'clock, three o'clock, four o'clock, boom, there's the thought, Oh, I had to say this.

I should have done that. That's showing that the Shen is not calm. So when the Shan is disturbed as insomnia Shani specifically said to live in the blood part of the system of the heart and is nourished by the blood. In TCM pathology that's traditional Chinese medicine, deficient blood may fail to nourish the Shen. And alternatively, heat disturbs the shin, right? So remember what I was talking about the blood deficiency, you won't get nourishment up to the heart, and if there's too much heat, you're going to agitate the heart.

So this reishi mushroom helps to calm the Shen. It nourishes you on a deep level, it's very relaxing and calming to the nervous system, right? So in Irvine, it's an adaptogenic herb, so it helps you adapt better to stress. Mushrooms in general are very common, right? They have a calming effect on the body, so that's why they're great. So I would suggest Reishi mushrooms.

Now all you have to be careful, just like with any URL, you have to test it on yourself. So I did a test on Reishi on myself. And I took Reishi for a month, twice a day. And initially in the beginning, I was feeling great. But then I started to get some horrible heartburn, right? Oh, so burning, right?

But this was too much for me. It was too much and it came at night. It didn't come during the day came at night when I was sleeping. And I was like, Oh my gosh, I cut back on the radiation. You know, because I already have a lot of sheets and Reishi and some people can create more heat. So even though it's a cooling kind of food, it can create more heat and some people and for me, I have a lot of heat on the inside already.

So it creates like you can see a fiery, I got all that stuff going on. Okay, so you have your poached fish and like I said halibut is very expensive. You don't have to poach halibut, you could poach flounder, take cod scribe and it will take literally two minutes because it's flakier, those lighter fishes are much easier to poach, right two minutes. So you put the little your herbs in your liquid and you boil them up, right you get all that that flavor profile. It's The water and there we're gonna drink this, this will be lunch, right. And then we have our salad which is cooling as well as warming, because we have the ginger in there.

We have a tea that will be ready. I can have this this afternoon. You know I like I said you can have it after 20 or 25 minutes, but it's best if this seeps overnight, right because the Hawthorn berries really get into the liquid as well as the nettle really gets into the liquid, you know, start having the things that will nourish and support your heart so that you don't have to be a statistic because Heart disease is the number one killer. Why to both men and women. It's the number one killer. So get at a kitchen, cook up, cook, cook up some prevention, and enjoy the rest of the month.

Right I'll see you next month in the next class.
