DESCRIPTION:

The Box Game is a simple activity with far-reaching potential. It's an amazing tool to use for teaching your dog to think and to learn. The goal of this game is to encourage your dog to choose to interact with an object he has never seen before. By rewarding his creativity, you will encourage him to learn how to solve problems.
There are several ways to teach a dog how to do something.

You could move his body into position, for example, lift his foot to teach him to shake, or push him down into a sit. Just because you could do it, doesn't mean you should. This is the least effective way to teach a dog
You could "lure" him into the position you want him to be in, then click so he knows that is what you want
You could do something and then have him mimic you. Some dogs are masters at copying other dogs and people
You could "capture" his behavior. Wait for him to do something, then reward him for doing it
And finally, you could shape his behavior. The Box Game is an introduction...
