DESCRIPTION: A crisis is inevitable in today’s complex organizational environment.  As a result, one of the greatest challenges any leader faces is either dealing with a slow-emerging organizational crisis or a rapid response to a natural disaster. In a crisis, the capacity of effective leaders to recognize emerging threats, make sense of the crisis situation through multiple perspectives, initiate efforts to mitigate the incident and deal with its consequences, and re-establish a sense of normalcy is critical.  That said, effective leaders in a crisis event are able to navigate toward a unified action across organizational boundaries as well as cross-functional relationships with internal and external key stakeholders. Regardless of one’s actions, in a crisis, a decision is always made, even if it is the decision to not decide.
