So what are we looking for when we're analyzing our speaking? So there's some real big hitters that can make your speaking and improve your speaking a great deal. The first one is the dreaded fillers. So what are we talking about when we say fillers? So we're talking about things such as, ah, so, actually basically literally, I mean, you know, fillers are basically anything that can be taken away from your speaking and it wouldn't make any difference and usually use them repeatedly. Fill is really tough to get get away from it.
You really just need to train your brain to stop using them. The first thing you want to do is identify the problem and that's why recording is so important, right? So you record yourself, you hear back and you'll notice them straightaway and you might find that you didn't even realize that you were doing it. Then you need to start putting strategies in place to Get rid of the fillers, the best way to get rid of a filler is to pause. Because generally what we're doing when we're using a filler is a brain is trying to get our mouth to slow down so it can keep up. So instead of using a filler word, just use silence.
Now this serves two purposes, because if your brain is struggling to keep up with your mouth, your audience's ears are probably struggling to keep up with your mouth as well. So pausing and giving some silence adds variety to your vocal range, but it also helps our brains keep up with words that are coming out. So stopping, slowing down, and just using a pause instead of a or na can be really useful. The other thing that you can do is save any heat. So when you're when you've got a flow when you're using it a lot, pause it go into heat come out, some people find that really useful. The best way to be prepared, practice, practice, practice.
If you know what you're going to say if you're confident with the way you speak with what you're talking about, you'll find that the fillers naturally disappear. If you get put on the spot and you're not practiced. The next one, the fillers are really going to show and really put you on the spot. So that's again, practice, practice, practice.
