The thought of writing your resume can be extremely intimidating for almost everyone. Now, the thing is that when you're writing a resume, you need to know where to begin, what to have in the body and how to highlight it and differentiate it from the rest of the resumes in the market. Now, that is a very difficult task to perform. And resume writing is something that Most candidates fail in. Now, in this lecture, I will be sharing with you 15 tips that if you follow, you will be able to write a very good and attractive resume. The first step is that you should determine your objectives to find a job.

Now, we had a dedicated lecture on this earlier, and I would suggest that you should go through that again when you're about to write your resume. Now, as far as your objective statement is concerned, it should be just one sentence and it should start off by identifying who you are, and later on of who you want to be. So these two simple steps will help you identify your purpose and your future aspirations with any given organization. The second tip is that you should use your resume as a marketing tool. Now over here, you have to consider yourself as a product. The hiring managers are the customers, and your resume is a brochure.

Now normally good brochures include all the benefits and the features of that particular product. Same goes when you're drafting your resume, you should write down all your strengths and your skills plus your past experience so that it is appealing to the hiring managers. The third tip that I would like to share here is and it's a very important one, that you should use your resume to secure an interview call not a job, you can never secure a job just by using your resume. Remember, you will be sharing resumes with different people and different hiring managers. The sole purpose of your resume will always be to secure you with an interview call. So it's basically just a door opener for you.

Not a job security. The fourth tip here is that your resume should be full of work. bullet points, just forget about writing paragraph because no hiring manager has the time to go through a story, you should have bullet points which identify your strengths and action points so that they can understand what you're trying to say in the least amount of time possible. Then we have action words. Now, these are words which basically appeal to hiring managers a lot like for myself, I used to look for action words, whenever I was shortlisted for different candidates, action words or for example, did XYZ things obtained this much percentage help do this, you know, so action words are those actions that you did in the past that basically help you complete a specific task. Along with action words, try to use science for example, help the organization achieve dollar sign 25,000.

In other example, help the organization increase its sales by 15%. So you know, these percentage signs, dollar signs, number signs, these are all very appealing to hiring managers. As far as shortlisting resume is concerned, I will not take more than 30 seconds to review an application or a resume. That is because I have to go through a number of applications in order to shortlist just five candidates. So make sure that you highlight your strengths and your core skills at the very beginning. Next step is that you should play the Match Game.

Now the Match Game is that before sharing your resume, for any job application, make sure that you review the job description. It is your right to have the job description with you before actually applying for a job. Now, once you have the job description in front of you, the hiring managers or the organization or HR department have already shared with you the key points that they're looking for. So try to use them appropriately. Don't copy paste, but use some of those words so that you can match your resume according to the job description at hand. Then comes the use of buzzwords.

Now there are certain words like for example, perfect improvised synergy competitive advantage analysis, you know. So these are the words that we are basically as hiring managers looking for, make sure you use them appropriately, but do not overuse them, there's a very fine line. A lot of individuals that I've come across, have used these words so much that it goes in their disadvantage. Next step is that you should accent the positives on your resume. At times I've come across resumes where people have actually, somehow or another written down some of the negative points about themselves as well. Now, leave that for the interview because the interviewer will probably ask for that or maybe inquire for all your weaknesses and everything.

But these are things that do not have to be written on your resume. Just focus on your core skills and your core strengths. And just make sure that you highlight them in a way that the hiring manager is actually inclined towards giving you a phone call. The next tip is that you should use your resume to highlight all the things that you know have I would recommend that instead of sharing a lot of detail about one specific area, highlight as many areas as you can remember, just highlight them, you will have your interview, hopefully, to discuss them in detail. So just a very brief summary of all the things that you are capable of doing. Next tip is that you should show the people that, you know, for example, if you have worked with the Vice President, or if you have worked with the head of department, or in a project, you were team members with renowned or sanities in a specific organization, you should always highlight those.

By doing so the hiring manager will have more confidence in you and would like to give you a call. The next step is that you should use or construct your resume in a way that it is easily readable to the hiring managers. Now, as a hiring manager, I've come across resumes that were very good, but for extremely difficult to read, and that automatically inclines them to moving on to the next profile. So make sure the font size that you use is decent, and at the same time you use enough blank spaces so that it is easily readable to the person reading it. The next step is that once you have constructed your resume, make sure that you share it with your close friends and your relatives for feedback. Based on their feedback, try to modify your resume according to each application.

Now the last point is that you should use your resume as a branding statement. Now you should have the courage to share your resumes for all the applications that you feel fit for. But you should also apply for positions that you feel you're overqualified for and go and prepare for the interview. The chances of you getting shortlisted will be much higher. And during the interview, there is always a possibility that they might consider you for some other or maybe a more senior position. If you feel there is a job where you feel that if you apply and you won't get shortlisted, even then you should apply and try to stretch your capabilities.

This way what happens is that there is a possibility that once you are prepared for the interview and your interview goes really well. And if there are certain capabilities that you lack, the organization might invest in you initially train you for a year or so, and make sure that you are fit for that position that you had initially applied for. So these were the 15 tips or the 15 things that you should always consider while building your resume. The thing is that your resume evolves over time, and you should keep applying to various positions. And based on that, you should try to modify your resume accordingly. Every time you sit to make your resume better, it will actually come out as a better product.

Now keeping these 15 tips in mind, I hope that you can construct a resume that actually stands out to the crowd and you're able to land up with your first interview call in a very short span of time.
