So you have received your first interview call, and you're obviously over the moon and really excited about that opportunity. But don't you think it would be of great benefit to you if you knew beforehand what hiring managers are thinking about you, and what goes in their mind when you enter the room for the interview. In this lecture, I will be sharing with you five generic things, what usually hiring managers like myself and others that you will come across, or thinking when you enter the room for an interview. The first thing that I would like to share with you is that due to the digital age, and social media and a lot of other platforms, most good hiring managers also do their research. And while doing so they already know from where you're coming from your basic background, because of your social media profiles and Google searches as well.

So I would recommend that instead of going there and just presenting about who you are and what you've done, I would suggest that you first of all, before appearing for the interview, check yourself on Google do a Google search, write your name and see what pops up so Make sure that you don't have any party pictures coming up with cigars in your hand and so on, because these things might go negatively in the overall interview. So try to make sure that you have a decent digital personality and whatever searches that those hiring managers conduct good images about you come up, I know that you've gone through your college and university life and everything, and you want to share those special moments with everyone. But I feel that there are certain things that should not be open to everyone, especially to hiring managers, because remember, their job is to judge you, and to see if you're a good culture fit in the organization.

The second thing that I would like to share is that, like I said, initially, that first impressions carry a huge weightage in all interviews, and once you enter the room through the door for the interview, those interviewers will start judging you immediately. So make sure that you are dressed properly. I have suggested before that you should do appropriate research about that organization so that you know what kind of culture that organization has. And obviously while doing so you can also at times determine the kind of dress code that are ization promotes. So if you've done your research properly and if you have this information with you beforehand, you will have a good competitive advantage when you're preparing for the interview. I also mentioned in some of my previous lectures that you should wear colors which are pleasing to the interviewer, and should not distract the interviewer by he or she is conducting your interview.

So avoid wearing bright colors and wear dull colors, which looks smart and more presentable when you are appearing for the interview. Third thing that I feel is important for you to know before you're appearing for the interview is that interviewers do not want to hear that you are a perfectionist, and that you've done so many things in the past and you're an overachiever, and you've been the best performer throughout your university life. And if you have any work experiences, well, they don't care about that. Yes, that information is important, but they want to see how you can translate all those achievements and your skills and abilities towards the organization that you're applying for, and the job roles that you will have. So don't brag about yourself about what you have done. Instead, share a brief history about yourself.

And your skills, and try to translate and relate all those things to the job description that you must have read beforehand, and also towards the organization and its overall goals. The next important thing is that it is not mandatory that you will get hired if you had number of years of experience is more compared to other candidates. As I mentioned earlier, that experience is just a number. And if you've been doing the same role for let's say, five or six years, it means that you have been stagnant in that role. And probably you had no opportunity to grow further towards other roles or maybe diversify your experience. So a diverse experience carries more weight age than number of years of experience, okay?

So try to present yourself in a way that you can tell them and show them how diverse you are, how you can adapt to different situations in the organization, and how you will be looking forward to the challenges that this road has to offer. And then finally, the last thing that I feel is very important for all of you to know is that make sure during the interview you portray this image of yourself that you are extremely excited to work for that organization. Irrespective of where that company stands or how it is competing with its competitors, you can never show them down. Because if you're doing that, it means that you are hitting the hammer on your own foot. And instead of getting hired, they might get offended about what you're saying, and you might not get the opportunity of working with them. So if you've applied for a position, you make sure that you go there with a frame of mind which tells them that you are extremely excited and you look forward to working with them irrespective of the reputation in the market and so on.

So these are general things that I thought that you should know before you prepare for the interview. These are important because if you know this beforehand, you can fine tune yourself accordingly in order to impress them in the best way possible.
