The second interview type is the telephonic interview. in normal circumstances, when you receive a call for a telephone interview, they won't just start the interview there and then and if they are trying to do so, just ask for some times so that you can prepare yourself and give the interview accordingly. telephonic interviews are not very different from a face to face interview, there are a couple of things that you have to ensure while giving an interview over the telephone. And there are certain things that you can use which cannot be used while giving a face to face interview. So, in this lecture, I will quickly summarize all those things so that you can employ them whenever you are faced with a telephone interview. So once you've received the phone call, you will ask for some time or probably they will ask for your time and a telephonic meeting or an interview will be scheduled for the same day, maybe after a couple of hours or maybe the next day.

First thing that you have to do before the interview, which is the pre interview phase. There are a couple of things that you have to consider. First thing is that you must clarify the details. Now by details I mean that you Have to ensure that the right time has been set. And there is no confusion about who is interviewing you the job title, whether you have the job description or not, and all other related details to that specific job interview. The second thing that you can use to your advantage is that you can use notes.

So first of all, you should have a copy of your resume lying in front of you, but you should have it in a bullet format like I mentioned earlier, so that when you are giving an introduction or you are presenting yourself, you can just skim through that and write down main things on top so that you don't forget them. Taking notes and using them to your advantage is something that you must do when you're preparing for a telephonic interview. Another thing during the pre interview phase is that try to dress apart as well. Now I know that the person will not be able to see you, but you must dress up accordingly so that you come into that frame of mind. You should have the frame of mind of a proper interview, you should wear shoes you should dress appropriately and try to give a proper interview like you would do so if in case it was a face to face interview.

Then you have to ensure that all systems are working properly. If you are using your cell phone, make sure the battery is fully charged. At the same time, just keep the charger as backup. So in case the interview goes extended hours, you can use the charger as well so that there is no disruptions or any distractions during the interview. At the same time, ensure that there is no noise in the room where you are giving the interview. Because these kinds of distractions like noise or if your battery's going low, and all these things will go against you.

And finally, before the interview actually begins, make sure that you have the end game in mind. Over here I'll give you a suggestion that if you want to portray yourself as a very creative person, as someone who can really think positively, and also someone who's very good at problem solving skills, and so on, I will recommend that you write down your top three preferred skills that you feel are very relevant to this job on the very top of the resume. If you do this, whenever you are going through your resume while the interview is going on. You will keep looking at these skills In these trades and it will automatically change your frame of mind according to what you have decided initially before the interview, after this comes the during the interview phase. in normal circumstances a telephonic interview will not last for more than 30 minutes and average time for a telephonic interview is between 15 to 20 minutes and the objective of a telephonic interview will always be that they call you in for a face to face interview.

Keeping that in mind, these are certain things that you have to consider while giving a telephonic interview. First thing is during the interview that you must not answer immediately listen carefully to what the interviewer is saying. At times what happens is that if you are very excited about a question against which you know the answer, he will just abruptly interrupt that person and start asking right away. Please do not make this mistake. This is something that I have experienced over and over again with a number of candidates and they are so enthusiastic and so motivated and so charged up while giving the telephonic interview that number one they forget to breathe while Talking. And number two, they don't listen to the whole question either.

So whenever a person or the interviewer is asking you a question, just hear him or her out completely. And when there is a pause for about, let's say, half a second, then start your answer. This will help you in giving a structured answer. Even if you know the answer of the question beforehand, start constructing the answer in your mind instead of sharing it there. And then this will help you avoid any kind of awkward points that usually occur in a telephonic interview. The next thing that you must consider is that you have to slow down while giving a telephone interview.

Usually, people when they get excited, and when they know the answer, they start to give answers in a very rapid pace. And what happens is that the interviewer in the end fails to understand what you're trying to say. You see in a telephonic interview, the good points are that you can use notes to your advantage and other things that I just mentioned. The bad point is that he or she cannot see you in person. So you lack your facial expressions and your body likes language which plays a very important part in selecting a candidate. So instead, you should slow down give a proper structured answer.

Your success in a telephone interview will depend on your tone your voice, and how you are actually given pauses in between so that the other person has enough time to absorb all the information that you're sharing with him or her about yourself. And then finally, during the interview, another important thing is that you must use your hands. Now over here, you must be thinking that why do you need to use your hands because that person cannot see you. But my friends The thing is that when you start using your hands, you are able to express yourself in a much better way. Like you can see in most of my lectures, hand language and the overall body language plays a very important part when you're trying to convey a message. So when you are appearing for a telephonic interview, try to use a hands raised so that your hands are free.

At the same time you should have a glass of water ready so that in case you get thirsty, or your mouth gets dry, you can take a sip and then Finally, once you start using your hands, the flow of what you're saying will be more structured and you will be able to pass on the relevant information in a much better way. Now, like I said that a telephone interview should not last more than about 30 minutes. At the end of the telephonic interview, you should always give a proper formal thank you note, thank the interviewer for his or her time. And you can also inquire about any future developments that might occur after the interview. in normal circumstances, the interviewer who will basically share with you that they have to interview XYZ number of candidates before they come up with the finalists candidates appreciate that information, acknowledge it and just tell them that you look forward to a face to face interview so that you can present yourself in person.

So these were the things that you have to consider while giving a telephonic interview. If you properly follow all these things while giving an interview over the phone, I am hundred percent sure that they will call you in for a face to face interview.
