As I mentioned earlier that looking for a job will probably be the most difficult jobs that you ever have. Having said that, there are a number of places where you can look for jobs and apply accordingly. Since your resume is now fully complete, it has been customized, it has been polished, and it's a perfect piece of document according to you. Now it is time to start applying. Now in this lecture, I will be sharing with you different places and different approaches that you can actually adopt in order to apply for different jobs in the market and land up with your first interview call in the least amount of time possible. The first thing that comes to our mind is company online portals.
Now all renowned organizations and even mediocre organizations maintain websites where you can actually apply against different jobs. Not only can you apply for various jobs, but you can also maintain your own profile over there. So let's say if there's a new opening in the near future, and if it matches your skill set, you will automatically be detected. But in many cases the portal is not strong enough or does not have the capacity to look For candidates online who already maintain their profile, so despite having a profile over there, you have to keep visiting that website in order to stay up to date, and to make sure that you don't miss out any opportunity in that organization. Second is that you can visit online recruitment websites. There are a number of renowned websites around the world that actually connect the employers with the employees or the candidates.
Now, for example, you can go to indeed.com, you have monster.com, you have bayt.com, and a lot of similar websites that are actually performing this task. I would urge all of you to visit these websites, all the ones that I've mentioned, and you can search online for more as well specific to the region that you're operating from. And you can look for websites that are connecting employers with potential employees and maintain your profiles over there. Over there. You don't have to just maintain your online profile. You also have to look for various opportunities that are being advertised over there and and you have to apply accordingly as well.
The third place where you can look for different opportunities. Is the classified in all newspapers. Now this is slowly and gradually becoming an obsolete approach to advertise and classifieds. But there are a number of organizations that still employ this conventional approach of advertising. Now you can just open the newspaper, look for the various opportunities over there and look at the organization's visit their websites and maintain your profile over there. Or you can apply directly or send your resume directly to those organizations.
Then the fourth place, which I feel is one of the most important ones is social media. And amongst all these platforms, the best one currently in the world today is LinkedIn. So you must maintain a very attractive LinkedIn profile. It is my view, as important as maintaining your profile or your resume. Now once you have your LinkedIn profile, you can start applying for various opportunities within LinkedIn and also outside LinkedIn as well. So most company websites require at times a LinkedIn profile or the URL of your LinkedIn account so they can easily look at your profile over there.
Then what You can do is that you can contact your illuminate. Now University fellows who are currently working in various organizations, they are your acquaintances or your friends that you can approach and line up your first let's say your exploratory interview. Now exploratory interview is an interview where you just visit the employer, even though there is no job opening at hand, could you just visit them for introduction just to introduce yourself for any potential openings in the near future. Along with that, you can also approach all your professional acquaintances working in various organizations. Now professional acquaintances are those individuals who are who have previously worked with you, in case you have any previous job experience, and you can approach them in different places and ask them for help or to line up your first interview call. Now, these individuals can not only help you for an introductory or an exploratory interview, but they can also let you know about what's happening in the organization and all the potential vacancies that will be arising in the near future.
So get in touch with them as soon as possible once your resume is ready. Now there is one approach, which most people think is to no avail. But personally speaking as an HR manager, I have experienced that walk in interviews is also something that you must consider. Now, I have come across various candidates who just walked into the organization and asked for the HR manager and waited for some time at times one or two hours in the waiting area, just to have a small introduction, or a more small chat with the HR manager, or with any other HR representative. Now, these individuals are basically self motivated individuals. And as a professional or a hiring manager, it feels really good to see individuals who actually go through the tedious tasks to come to the organization without an appointment, wait in the waiting area for some time just to have a small chat with the person that they're looking for.
Now, in such cases, what happens is that mostly you will not get time so don't get disappointed. But if you do try to make the best of it. In general, I would like to tell you that if you show confidence in these mock interviews, and if you portray This image of yourself that you really want to work with that organization, it can work in your favor. Now, probably you won't get a job immediately, because it's an unscheduled interview against no opening. But at least what it will do is that you will, number one, practice your interview skills. And number two, you will stay in the eyes of those potential employers.
And they will appreciate the fact that you came all the way for a walk in interview, waited for some time, and then had a small introductory meeting with them. The next thing that you must do is to attend all corporate events, or networking events, or in other words, job fairs that are happening around where you live. Now, these events are places where you could go up for walking interviews and just go meet the employers, check out the company profiles, get to know what's happening, what kind of candidates are in the market, what companies are looking for, what are the general job openings, and you'll get a very good idea of what's happening in the market. Now in such cases, you will come across very good organizations who are Present over there, they have their camps or their small desks over there and you can just walk up to them and basically try to sell your skills and your strengths.
The next place where you can start looking for a job is the headhunters. Now headhunters not only are in touch with the potential employers, but also with candidates and they want to maintain a pool so that they can provide individuals to employers as soon as there is a job opening in place. Now, what you can do is that you can search online, look for headhunters that are operating around you and start visiting their office because getting an appointment with them will be relatively easier than getting an appointment with an employer. So you go over there present yourself very briefly share your profile, both online and hardcopy as well. And your profile will automatically be highlighted. if let's say there is an opening in the near future.
Now, most candidates that have come across who come through headhunters only do that once they advertise a position. So while wait for their advertisement, yes, you should also keep an eye out for what they're advertising. But at the same time, you can also visit their offices apply to their websites online to stay up to date of what's happening around you. The second last place where you can look for a job is the HR department. If you have friends working in various organizations, you can call them up and ask them if you can just have a small introductory meeting with any HR representative. Now, it won't be possible at times that you meet some higher ups in the HR department.
But if you can't, that's fine, just meet any HR representatives and try to introduce yourself in a very good manner. So that if in case there is an opening, they can consider you for that as well. Finally, the last thing that you will have to do is to use your references and all your networking skills. Now the next topic is based on networking sales and the power it has been looking for different opportunities. But looking for references and for people who can actually refer you to different opportunities is something that must be done, which is why the next lecture is dedicated on networking skills, but just to run through on all the things that I mentioned number One go to company portals of various organizations and maintain your profile over there and keep an eye out for all upcoming opportunities. Number two, visit various recruitment websites and maintain your profile over there, then you can visit the classified in the newspaper.
It is a conventional approach, but there are still organizations that advertise at the classified. Number four, you can exploit social media and important platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, and so on. So maintain a very attractive profile over there. Then you can connect with your illuminate all your previous class fellows and your friends that you were studying with, approach them and get their help to get your first interview call. Then you can also approach all your professional acquaintances. If you have any prior experience.
Get in touch with those friends who are working over there and ask them for help. Then we have walking interviews, something that most candidates think is of no use, but walking interviews at times do pay off and the way you do it and how you represent yourself in these interviews is what basically matters. And if nothing else, you stay on your toes. You are in practice by giving various introductions about yourself and an interview in case of an ideal situation. Next up, you must attend any kind of job fair that's happening around you so that you know what employers are looking for. And what are the openings currently prevailing in the market.
Then you have headhunters and recruiters go visit their office. And not only that, maintain a profile on their website and keep an eye out for all the openings that are appearing over there. Following this, you have the HR department if you have friends working in different organizations, ask for their favor if they can match you up with any kind of HR representative. And then finally, use your networking skills. Use your references that you have asked for the help if they can refer you to various organizations and go visit those organizations for an exploratory interview or an introductory interview. For all these sources that I shared with you right now, the one thing that you have to rely on is your networking skills.
Now, networking skills will play a very important part when you're looking for different jobs, which is why we move on to the next lecture, which is the Power of networking skills
