So you've reached the office on time, ideally 15 minutes before your interview begins, and you're waiting in the waiting area. And I'm sure you must be very nervous at that time. So instead of panicking or freaking out, try to use this time in a productive manner. And how can you do that? In this lecture, I will share with you a couple of simple things that you have to do in order to determine the smell of the place. Now by smell of the place, I don't mean that you start sniffing around the office just to see how it smells and everything.
What I'm trying to say is that you should try to use this time and observe very carefully what is happening around you. Why I said that forget about loads is because your interview started the second you set your foot inside the office, and every person from the receptionist and all the individuals you will be coming across will be passing judgment on you and probably forming an opinion as well. So yes, you don't need their approval, but you won't don't want their disapproval as well. So while you're waiting in the area, relax, do some breathing exercises and try to observe how people are generally talking to each other. What is the overall dress code? How are they dressed up and everything.
And along with that, also see the kind of branding they've done in their office. If you can see various pictures, value statements or mission statements written on the walls of the office, try to understand what they mean. And see how you can use that to fine tune your overall personality for the actual interview. If you start observing your environment in a way that you are able to understand it properly, you will bring yourself in a frame of mind, which is the best ideally suited frame of mind for that organization. Because most good organizations have an environment in the office as per their values and their mission statements so that all employees when they are working over there have the same kind of mindset. In the end, I would like to tell you that what I'm trying to say in this small lecture is that while you're waiting, don't freak out, just wait and relax, because there are people who will be observing you and do use this time effectively that you can somehow or another understand what kind of culture this organization is promoting.
And if you're able To understand that properly, when you walk into the interview room, you will portray an image which is exactly what the hiring managers are looking for.
